Doordarshan turns 57 today!
India's Public Service Broadcaster was launched on this day, from inside a makeshift studio with a small transistor. DD was part of All India Radio till 1965, so all the regular daily transmission were operated by AIR. Some years later, Doordarshan introduced National telecast service from its own TV Studio and named the channel DD1. Krishi Darshan, Chaupaal, Samachar, Kalyani were the very first programs on a channel which has showcased some of India's most timeless programs till date.
