Excerpt Text:

We have an avocado seed sprouting on the kitchen windowsill with basil, lilac in the living room
being transplanted
shooting off in many directions
back to we have only one plant
inside the study: a bamboo received in our Good Fortune
Box but fresh flowers frequently. Lime tree. Philodendron. Jade. Ponytail. Christmas cacti. Cut—
poinsettia alive for three years. Kept! Tomato plants
with the cherry pies on the table. We have just one real plant
in different forms and a few fake plants over there with the boxed tools. We're desirous of more natural light to flood
nevertheless growing peace lilies, elephant ear, shamrock.

Excerpt Text:

The thing is, I don’t go to watch the girls dance to objectify them. It’s not as though I’m made of cellophane. Just as I can see them, they can see me. And they do. They really see me. I pretend I’m up there, too, you know? I pretend my t**s are small and my ass is round and that my thighs can keep me in the air for hours. I imagine my flesh, bruised and lovely from a hard night’s work. I imagine another person’s eyes on me for reasons my aunt used to tell me were right, before she died because someone looked at her for reasons she said were wrong. In any case, I think I’ve figured out how to convince the girls I’m there for other reasons.

Is it true that Jerome Rothenberg

after he wilfully opened a large pomegranate in his kitchen
and the blood splattered across the four walls
like a painting by Jeffrey Dahmer?

for V

Light falls into us. The day, like a potted pathos, reaches
for the ground below. We are grounded. Our feet hit
the floorboards and we’re off to the races, over the moon,
filled with that strange white glow that fuels two hearts.
We are perfume and artisanal shaving cream, the Key lime
tartness of experimental mimosas. Arm-in-arm, we become
confusing modern art that stumps the public, statues in a park
that park-people see and think, I’m still cultured, even if I don’t get it.

Excerpt Text:

Billie was born in a circus. Okay, okay, I know some of you (the clever ones) will say we all are born in circuses. But Billie was born in an actual circus circus. Her mother was the bearded lady. Her father was a snake charmer, but he is not critical here, since he left before Billie was born. Anyhow, Billie’s mother did not like mirrors, so the only ones or ones that Billie could use were in the funhouse, i.e., the house of mirrors.

Some days Billie’s hairdo might be a bit lopsided or her smile worn a little crooked depending on which mirror she used that day. But whatever she wore, be it clothes or whatever, she wore in a carefree fashion. She said hello to everybody and everything, and everybody and everything said hello back, or so it was for a while.

memory suffocates on windowsills

time moving through me like the wind

change is in the air
the future is unmapped

we weren’t always like this.
we used to play. didn’t we?
while uncles meandered drunk
down dark roads,
we played our board games,

The meanest guy in school
wants me
out of the picture.

With his 6’0 tall bodyguard standing nearby,
he just proved as much with a hadoken
shove to my back.
My foot planting in a gopher hole.
My ankle would be on fire right now,
if it weren’t for the adrenaline
that just hurricane kicked in.

It may be winter, but on Page 10 and 11 of Pinky Thinker Press Issue No. 10, it’s “Spring in the City.” Jessica Gordon, a New York-based artist, has been honing her skills in abstract textural art for the past several years. Starting her career off in the commercial architecture space, Jessica has a keen eye for art and space. She brings a refined eye and use of color to every piece she works on. Jessica finds inspiration from the environments she immerses herself in and the people she meets. New York provides a raw texture and unrefined aesthetic that she incorporates in her process and craft.
