It's a holiday today which means I can catch up with some gaming, even while doing some errands. Currently starting a Chrono Trigger run using the Anbernic RG35XX SP while having the car washed. The perfect setup while waiting.

By request, here's another gameplay video using the Anbernic RG556, showcasing God Of War II for the Playstation 2. This video is a bit longer than usual, from loading to the intro video to gameplay, around 5 minutes long.

Same as the previous video, this is with the default settings of AetherSX2 that came with the unit.

PS2 Emulation with a Full HD AMOLED Screen!

We got a new console in the house! And this is a major upgrade from the small, Game Boy-inspired units we usually feature. This is the Anbernic RG556, which can emulate more than your typical PS1 games, including PSP, PS2, Dreamcast, with some Gamecube and Wii games as well. Here are the specs:

✅ 5.48" Full HD (1920x1080) AMOLED Screen
✅ Unisoc T820 Chipset with a Mali-G57 GPU
✅ 8GB LPDDR4X
✅ Lighted Hall-effect joysticks with L3/R3 buttons, with analog L2/R2 triggers (great for game streaming like Steam Link)
✅ WiFi, Bluetooth, stereo speakers, 3.5mm earphone jack
✅ Android 13 (you can play Android games as well!)
✅ USB-C with DP-out (can be docked!)

The stand-out for me here is the AMOLED screen, which makes the visuals pop more, plus the blacks are really black so you wouldn't mind playing 4:3 content here as the black bars fades into the background.

Here's another gameplay video, now using the Anbernic RG40XXV. This unit is using the same Allwinner H700 chipset that can play up to PS1 smoothly, with some N64/Dreamcast/PSP games playing at decent speeds.

This vertical form-factor console has a 4" 640x480 pixel IPS screen, with a single analog stick for those systems that would benefit from it (as opposed to the traditional D-pad) like N64 or arcade games, so this is great for those who grew up from Gen1 to Gen 5 home console systems.

Gameplay video of the Anbernic RG35XX Plus. The RG35XX Plus has the same look and feel with the original RG35XX but with upgraded internals, plus WiFi and bluetooth so that you can connect other systems and other controllers wirelessly!

And now they're 4!

We recently just gotten the Anbernic RG40XX H (bottom) which is part of Anbernic's RG-XX line of entry level consoles. It has a 640x480 pixel resolution IPS screen (same with all RG-XX line except the new RG34XX model), with this one having a 4.0" screen size (hence the 40 monicker).

Having the same Allwinner H700 chipset, it can run games up to PS1 smoothly, and some N64/Dreamcast/PSP games as well.

What makes this a compelling buy is that they are relatively on the cheaper side (around P4,000 each or lower if you know where to source) and can do wireless multiplayer as well. Perfect for families and small groups of friends who want to relive these retro games.

In true "I have a problem" fashion, we now have the Anbernic RG40XX H, the horizontal version of the RG40XX V (pictured shyly on the right). We are now flashing Knulli on it as we speak and we will be configuring it, just in time for us to make a video out of all of tge RG-XX line that we have (excluding other models because if we have those, the we really have a problem hahahahaha... huhuhuhu...)

It's been a while since I've did something with this page, but since 2024 is almost done, I have a little bit of time for myself and for the healing of my inner child, which is becoming more and more expensive right now. 😅😅😅

Here we have a few of Anbernic's RG-XX line of retro consoles that I have been acquiring and fiddling around. From left to right: RG35XX Plus, RG40XX-V, and the RG35XX SP. They all have the same Allwinner H700 chipset that can run games up to PS1 smoothly, and some select N64/PSP games as well. Eventhough they have the same performance overall due to having the same chipset, they do have different use cases and slightly different target markets.

I also replaced the stock OS with a custom firmware called Knulli, which is a fork of Batocera. For those who are wondering what mumbo-jumbo I just said, basically I made the units more user friendly and prettier to use. I will be trying to do some videos of these just to show you what they can do. Hopefully in the coming days. 😅
