Yesterday, I got a call from a friend and lover who resides in Onikankan Village , along Moniya -Iseyin road and l felt so bad. He was narrating how people living in that community were caged inside due to the heavy rain that destroyed the bridge linking the community to the major road.

Similar stories were also shared by people of Lagbe and Olorisa -oko communities. For the past 3 days , residents of Lagbe community under Akinyele Local Government have been wrestling with the aftermath of the heavy rain too.

Meanwhile, from my personal findings, about 68 percent of the local/community roads across 33 local governments in Oyo State are not in good conditions. Some these roads are deathtraps. In some communities, through their landlord associations , a number of measures have been put in place to fix or repair their roads.

But the question is " what roles are the local governments playing toward fixing and repairing roads under their watch?" Or local governments don't have any responsibility to construct and repair roads again? Of course l am aware of the constitutional division of powers between the central government and its component units. But the same constitution that divides power between central and its components, also empowered Local Government to attend to the needs of the people at grassroots .Specifically, S.7 (1) of the Constitution states that: “The system of local government by democratically elected local government councils is under this Constitution guaranteed; and accordingly, the Government of every State shall, subject to Section 8 of this Constitution, ensure their existence under a Law which provides for the establishment, structure, composition, finance and functions of such councils”.

The constitution in Schedule Four provides for functions of local governments. These include collection of rates, radio and television licences; establishment and maintenance of cemeteries, burial grounds and homes for the destitute or infirm; licensing of bicycles, trucks (other than mechanically propelled trucks), canoes, wheel barrows and carts; and establishment, maintenance and regulation of slaughter houses, slaughter slabs, markets, motor parks and public conveniences. Others are construction and maintenance of roads, streets, street lightings, drains and other public highways, parks, gardens, open spaces etc.

But is a pity that we are not getting it right in this country. The system we are running in Nigeria is not empowering the supposed " grassroots government" to attend to the major needs of the people of the grassroots. Moreover, the problem did not just start today. Some administrations in the past were also guilty of this. State governors are not helping the local governments across the country to be responsible. Some of these governors denied local government chairmen financial freedom to execute projects at their various levels which in turn affecting local government administration in Nigeria.

Another problem facing local government administrations in Nigeria is the method of transmitting money to local governments through the joint account .This is not helping too.It has provided the umbrella for state governments to literally pilfer, withhold and mismanage local government funds. Even attempts made by the Federal Government to monitor and stop state governors from continued looting of local government funds have not yielded the desired results.

Since 1999, most local governments in Nigeria have got federation accounts allocation amounting to more than N40billion. But a visit to these local governments will make you hate local government administration in Nigeria.

I wish the Nigerian governors will one day see senses in giving their local governments financial freedom so as to attend to problems at grassroots.

Our local governments come alive.

ALGON JUDGEMENT: AN OPPORTUNITY TO UNITE AS A PARTY, RALLY SUPPORT FOR ALGON AND AIM FOR VICTORY AT THE SUPREME COURT.

Dear Progressives,

I recieved with amazement and utmost dissappointment the news of the unexpected and unfavourable Appeal court judgement delivered in Ibadan today on the ALGON vs Oyo State govt case. I want to enjoin our party members not to feel depressed or discouraged with this development as it is just a temporary setback. All we need to do now is to see this as an opportunity to bury all our differences, unite as a party more than ever before. This will enable us rally all the necessary support, moral, financial and political, for ALGON to proceed to the Supreme court to seek redress and achieve victory for our party. I believe we have a good case at hand. Given all the facts presented to the court and the precedents cited by the counsels during the hearing, victory for ALGON was expected and almost assured. I'm confident that the Supreme court will correct this injustice and r**e of our constitutional democracy.

This case should not be seen as that of ALGON alone but a case to be taken up by every constitutional democracy loving member of our party and the general public to ensure that the rule of law prevails. I'm excited at developments and reactions within our party following this judgement as critical stakeholders within the party are now showing unwavering interest in pushing this case forward. I'm appealing to all and sundry to let us use this platform to unite all members and fight this case with unity of purpose and as a common cause to the end. I see light at the end of the tunnel.

I want to use this opportunity to appeal to our party leadership to immediately summon a stakeholders meeting on the next step as soon as the lawyers review and interpretation of the judgement is concluded. Evil can only prevail when the righteous are quiet. I'm renewing my dedication and commitment to this cause irrespective of steps taken to date on this same case and i also promise to reach out to other critical stakeholders and like minds to rally support for ALGON at the state, regional and national level. May God bless our struggle.

Aluta continua, Victoria Acerta.

AJIMOBI's DEATH: A TRIBUTE TO MY POLITICAL BENEFACTOR, MENTOR AND ROLE MODEL....BAYO ADELABU

We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. - Chuck Palahniuk

It has been a rude shock for me since the death of our amiable leader, H.E Abiola Ajimobi was announced yesterday, 25th of June 2020. Each time I mustered a little strenght and courage to attend to my phone or reply messages, my heart and whole being just failed me over and over again. I tried so hard to wish this away as a bad dream but the reality of it kept staring me in the face. Oga's passage is just too much of a loss to bear at this time.

A great light has gone out in the world. Isiaka Abiola Akanji Ajimobi was a towering figure in our time; a legend in life and now in death. His fearlessness, integrity, kindliness of nature, thoroughness and unsleeping vigilance in the discharge of his political duties is a reflection of the development he left behind in Oyo state.

You were and will always be my inspiration in politics. That first ever touch that fertilized the ground beneath my political life's tree; that first ever rose that will forever fragrance my political memories. You were my benefactor, mentor and role model. It is true that "Death ends a life, not a relationship" (Mitch Albom). You'll forever take a special place in my heart.

You were not just our state party leader and former Governor, you were a unifying factor, strong back bone and enviable symbol of the progressives in the state and indeed the entire country. Your name will go down in history as the most visionary, administrative savvy and development inclined governor we ever had in Oyo state till date. Your political sagacity and statesmanly courage will linger in our memories for long.

We take solace in the fact that you lived a fufiled life worthy of emulation by all. You wrote your name in diamond with your enduring legacies in every facet of politics and governance in Oyo State. The APC family in Oyo State and indeed in Nigeria will miss your wise counsel and political astuteness most especially at this important moment for our party and nation's history.

I extend my deepest sympathy and gratitude to the entire Ajimobi family for sharing this extraordinary man with us. His life’s work as Governor of our dear state meant long days away from those who loved him the most. And I only hope that the time spent with him these last few months after he left office brought you peace, comfort and fond memories. We wished he could spend more, but his unquestionable creator, the Almighty Allah wanted him more.

When a man has done what he considers to be his duty (consentiously) to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe H.E Abiola Ajimobi has made that effort and therefore, he will rest in perfect peace till eternity.

May Almighty Allah grant us all the fortitude to bear this great loss and grant our leader Aljana Fridaus.

Adieu my leader, Adieu great mentor, Adieu Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi!

PENKELE, GSM GOVERMENT, COVID-19 AND OTHER STORIES - A DIALOGUE AND EXCURSION INTO OYO POLITICAL CIRCUIT - PART 1

OYO 1: THIS Penkele of a man will not stop springing up surprises anytime one comes in contact with him! He just brings up something new whenever one hears him talk in public.

OYO 2: WHAT do you mean? Are we yet in another round of politics, campaign rallies and political campaigns? Please come down to my level.

OYO 1: SO, you didn't listen to Fresh FM last Saturday, 20th June, 2020 when Adelabu was featured in a 2-Hour Interview programme; Political Circuit. That popular political radio programme anchored by Mayor Isaac Brown?

OYO 2: IS that what you are talking about? As a matter of routine, l don't miss that programme especially after the 2019 general elections. And of course this Saturday, l stay glued to Fresh FM all through the two hours duration of the interview with Penkele. l actually listened in awe to all that he was saying while the programme lasted.

OYO 1: _HEEN HEEN_ ! Can you imagine the man saying he really wanted Seyi Makinde to succeed as a Governor? He even added that it is too early in the day for people to start comparing the one year in office of Seyi Makinde with former Governor Abiola Ajimobi's eight years administration. I can't imagine a politician embarking on such a strong Public Relations or image laundering job for his opponent!

OYO 2: AND what is bad in that? I can only agree with you to the extent that doing that and making such positive comments about political opponents is strange to Nigerian politics and the current tribes of Nigerian politicians.

OYO 1: YES, that is the point l was trying to make. I don't think this Bayo Adelabu man will ever transit into a typical Nigerian politician _o_ ! Unfortunately for him, his APC party members and henchmen would be baying for blood for seemingly patronising GSM so early in that interview.

OYO 2: WHILE l would agree with you that many of his party men would frown at the way he started that interview, the positive derivative of that is that the listeners and the generality of Oyo voters and citizens would be impressed and happy with him for not being outrightly confrontational. To me, that is a plus for Penkele and would earn him some political dividends as intense politics unfold in the land as we move towards 2023.

OYO 1: _O ga o_ , l have never seen this kind of _Alakowe_ and _gentle gentle_ politician like this Penkele man before. Anyway, the guy has a rich corporate and institutional background. So, l am not too surprised with his conciliatory and urbane approach to politics _sha_ .

OYO 2: MY friend, don't be too sure of Penkele o. That man you call _Alakowe_ can really bite with so much venom packed in his words whenever he feels it is necessary to do so. Didn't you follow the tangent of his comments laced with some very scathing words for the government of Makinde within the last one year in office?

OYO 1: CUTS in...Well, truth be told, that Adelabu man is not really an _Alakowe sef._ No one who comes from his _Oke Odo, Oke Ofa_ and Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan background can hardly be a _gentle gentle_ person. If you ask me, the experiences he had garnered over the years from those local Ibadan background is what l will call _"School of Hard Knocks!" Gbagbe joo, street boy ni Bobo 'Bayo yen!_

OYO 2: I agree with you on that _sha_ . But the point l was making before you cut me short was that Bayo Adelabu took GSM to the cleaners and really exposed his administrative laxity in that interview. Didn't you hear him tear apart the N7.6billion Naira Agric Project being financed with bank loan for just only two local governments within the same senatorial constituency of Ibadan/Ibarapa out of the constitutionally listed 33 in Oyo State, leaving out Oke Ogun completely? And he said Oke-Ogun alone accounts for almost two third of our farm land in Oyo state with a climate also most conducive for Livestock farming. Didn't you hear him lampoon the Governor for the multi billion naira Motor Terminus Project which is a commercial venture in Iwo Road and a few other areas all within Ibadan? Didn't you hear Penkele castigating GSM for not effectively delegating authorities and not being in control of his government and his cabinet members in that radio interview? Didnt you hear his views on the state of Security in the state? He also delved into the manner in which the government is handling Covid 19 pandemic and his total disapproval of school resumption at this time. He als asked for the breakdown of N1billion spent within one week of the Covid 19 pandemic with just about three Index cases?

OYO 1: CUTS in... Actually, he really...

OYO 2: CUTS in...Wait, let me round off the point l was making. For me, that seemingly patronising introductory comments about GSM's one year in office was just a clever decor by Penkele. He really wanted to take GSM government to the slaughter slab without appearing to be doing so. And l think by and large, Penkele really achieved that! Like they say on the street, _Penkele wo Seyi gan lori radio interview yen. Iyen ni won n pe ni o fi GSM pa gan ni o!_

OYO 1. YOU are dead right with that observation. He didn't spare the rod against Makinde and his government at all. He even trivialised the much-touted payment of salary by Seyi's Government. He maintained that paying salary is not rocket science anywhere in the world adding that nobody needs any special talent or intellect to pay workers salary! Again, the one that really hit me was his analogy of a student who had spent one hour answering the simplest out of four examination questions and such student has just only three hours to write the paper. Pray what result or outcome would such tactless student get from such examination. What Penkelemesi was simply driving at was that Seyi's government has not really hit the ground running but is only dwelling on the minor instead of confronting headlong the major tasks at hand.

OYO 2: TRUTH is; Bayo Adelabu really made a point and hit the bull's eye with that brilliant analogy. And talking about brilliance and top-notch communication skills, that man Adebayo Adekola Adelabu has it all. Did you notice the way he was reeling out his points with relevant facts and figures? He was gravitating from politics to economy, from economy to social and community issues, from community issues to international organisations and world affairs. He took the entire audience through the history of pandemics globally from 1858 to date. That was so brilliant. Truth be told, the man has stuffs in that his head!

OYO 1: YOU know what? A guy with whom l was listening to the interview suddenly bursted into a loud laughter when Penkele was making his analogy of a student writing an examination. Do you know what my guy said? "A _ma waa daran l'Oyo State o. A ti fi iboo wa ta MMM bayi o. Baa se moo ba lo nuu f'odun merin!"_ You can imagine such a brutally frank comment from that friend of mine.

OYO 2: THE guy must be a clown. What is the relationship between the Bayo Adelabu interview and the _MMM_ digression your man was dragging you into? Was _MMM_ not that 419 ponzi scheme that people fell into around 2014-2015?

OYO 1: TRUST me, l actually asked him what brought the matter of _MMM_ into the Penkele Interview on radio. My brother, his response eventhough made much sense but the guy's uncanny knack for wicked humour really threw me into a long moment of laughter!

OYO 2: SPARE me the long story Bros. _Ewo ni MMM ninu oro oselu to wa nle yi joo?_

OYO 1: THE guy asked whether l had ever listened to Seyi anytime he was granting an interview on any broadcast media. He said the Governor would always interject his every sentence with " __Emm Emm Emm_. " As he puts it;, "we have entered the era of _MMM_ government led by GSM for the next our years!" The guy had hardly finished that his wicked comparison before l myself busted into a bout of laughter too!

OYO 2: OH my _gawd_ ! That your man must be bearing "Wickedness" as his surname!

OYO 1: _ABEG_ , spare my friend o. Is he the one that says people should have accent in their voice or be bland, tentative and uninspiring in speech? My guy didn't tell anyone _wipe ko ko ila s'óhùn o!_

OYO 2: WE were talking about serious issues before you brought in your _yeye_ guy and his nasty sense of humour. I also noticed that the Presenter, Mayor Isaac Brown succeeded in dragging Bayo Adelabu into the politics of COVID-19 in that Fresh FM interview.
He was asking Penkele why he didn't donate to the COVID-19 FUND floated by Oyo State Government and how much of personal intervention did Penkele make to alleviate or cushion the effect of the novel pandemic on Oyo citizens.

OYO 1: THAT'S another opportunity Penkele had to come down hard on GSM. He barely comes short of saying there is corruption in the manner through which the state is managing the money donated to the government by various well to do private individuals and corporate citizens. I remember Adelabu mentioned something like GSM government spending over One Billion Naira or so within two weeks on palliatives and other relief items. Penkele in his opinion was of the view that such figure was excessive and reeks of high level financial mismanagement. I recall that Penkele disclosed that such apparent state government recklessness was mainly the reason he decided to personally spend the money he would have donated to the government on the people directly.

OYO 2: l heard that too. And if l remember correctly, l think Penkele claimed he had spent over N80 million in direct cash transfers and the procurement of sundry palliative and relief items to Oyo people. He even maintained that those spending was "verifiable" as he made sure the monies actually got to the needy at that point in time. He specifically mentioned N20,000, N10,000, N5,000 and N2,500 as different categories of monies sent directly into Oyo people's account numbers. For me, that was highly commendable and an exemplary acts that should be emulated not only by politicians but equally by all well to do persons in the society. However, what l don't understand is why would a politician of Penkele's status spend so much money and prefer not to make some noise or create some media events around such philanthropic gesture. This Penkele will not stop amazing one with some of these his unusual styles of politicking!

OYO 1: THE Anchor Man, Isaac Brown was almost putting Penkele in a spot when he raised the issue of thuggery and brigandage in politics. That was when he brought up the issue of an allegation of Penkele buying a car for a certain notorious thug in Ibadan. Mayor was...

OYO 2: CUTS in... That's why being public communication savvy and quick-witted for a politician or any public figure is very important. I figure that Penkele was able to quickly wriggle out of the spot Isaac Brown was trying to put him. I think l heard clearly even if faintly on the radio that Bayo Adelabu had quickly laughed the allegation off even before Isaac could conclude that line of questioning. And if you really paid attention to the details of the entire 2-Hour interview, you would notice that Penkele had earlier criticised and lampooned the current Oyo State Government for harboring and indulging many of these notorious criminal elements. That was when Adelabu was dressing down the state government as not performing to expectation in the area of security.

OYO 1: TALKING about security now, can we even vouch for any of our politicians when it comes to making use of thugs and other criminal elements in their quest for power? I tell you, all the politicians without exception, have them on their train and all around them as they struggle to get into power and government!

OYO 2: OF course, that is obvious but they will always deny having these thugs around them. Even the prominent Pastors and Alhajis among the politicians can't afford not to romance these elements especially when they can not trust the Nigerian Police to provide the required security for them. And if l should ask you; Who wants to die just in the quest for power? _Olowo kii fee ku my brother!_

The above is an improvised dialogue between two persons who had both listened to the live broadcast of a radio programme, " POLITICAL CIRCUIT", a FRESH FM, Ibadan political interview programme aired on Saturday, 20th June, 2020. The programme featured Chief Bayo Adelabu as Special Guest.

Yahya Busari's Death: I just lost an irreplaceable brother, unapologetic loyalist and a close confidant.......Bayo Adelabu

The entire management of Bayo Adelabu foundation and political headquarters have expressed deep shock over the death of Alhaji Yahaya Adekola Busari who was a brother and close Associate of Chief Adebayo Adekola Adelabu.

The death of Alhaji Yahaya Adekola Busari was no doubt a rude shock for the 2019 Governorship candidate of APC, Chief Adelabu who is widely known for his unmatched loyalty and level of commitment to the Penkeles' team during and after the electioneering process which is unequalled.

In a statement issued by one of Chief Bayo Adelabu's Media Aides, Comerade Femi Awogboro, he said his principal is currently mourning the demise of Alhaji Yahaya Busari who he has described as a brother, loyalist, confidant and an unapologetic Penkelemes' fanatic. In his words "Brother Yahaya believed in me, trusted in our aspiration and passionate about seeing good governance installed in Oyo state. He displayed and supported the cause with everything he had and it's unfortunate he didn't live to witness the success of this struggle. His untimely death is sad, painful and devastating, especially for me and my team. I believe Brother Yahaya has gone to rest and the Almighty Allah will surely make it a peaceful one. He will be greatly missed for all his attributes as a backbone to our team. We will forge ahead and what we owe him is a renewed dedication to the cause he believed in and we shall honour him with the success of this struggle one day, no matter how long it takes us, Insha Allah. My heart goes to the family he left behind and I pray that the Almighty Allah will grant us all the energy and the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss. Rest on Yahaya Badara"

According to Awogboro, the late Alhaji Busari was one of the close associate to Bayo Adelabu whose maturity, liberal qualities, wisdom and native intelligence would be greatly missed.

He prayed Allah to grant the deceased forgiveness of his sins, eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the Irreparable loss.

Meanwhile, Awogboro emphasised that all activities at the Bayo Adelabu Foundation and Political Headquarters have been suspended for the next seven days to mourn the demise of Alhaji Yahaya Badara. This unfortunately includes the well advertised and anticipated interview of Chief Bayo Adelabu on "Covid 19 and Governance in Oyo state....One year After" slated for Fresh FM tomorrow Saturday 13 June, with Mayor Isaac Brown. A new date will be announced later.

Eid el fitri: Adelabu urges Muslims to continue their prayers for the Nation, sends condolences on the lost souls during the holy month of Ramadan

As Muslims all over the world mark the end of this year's Ramadan fasting, the Governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress Party in Oyo state, Chief Adebayo Adelabu has enjoined Muslims to continue to pray for the nation in this trying times.

Chief Adelabu made the call in his Eid el Fitri message sent to Muslim faithfuls in the state on the successful completion of Ramadan fasting ushering in the Shawwal which is the 10th Month of Muslim Lunar calendar year.

In the statement made available to journalists by one of his Media Aides, Comrade Femi Awogboro, Chief Adebayo Adelabu congratulate Muslims for witnessing the conclusion of this year's fasting which was observed in the most unusual circumstance in the midst of Novel Covid-19 pandemic which has redefined our social, economic and spiritual activities in its entirety.

The holy month of Ramadan presented a unique opportunity for Muslims to support the global efforts to end the COVID-19 pandemic with fervent prayers to Allah for mercy. He appealed to Muslims that the end of Ramadan fasting should not deter Muslims from continuing their prayers for the Nation as we need divine intervention to see to the end of this pandemic.

While felicitating with Muslim faithfuls on the Eid el fitri celebration, the former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria also extended his heartfelt condolences to some prominent illustrious sons of Oyo state who lost their lives in the month of Ramadan as well as those that were lost directly to the Corona Virus Pandemic. He specifically mentioned Chief Richard Akinjide, a legal luminary and a former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the federation, Chief Murtala Adebayo Adetunji, a renown business mogul popularly known as Adetunji Onisiga and Mr Kehinde Ayoola, a former Speaker of Oyo state House of Assembly and the Commisioner for environment in the current administration. While he eulogised the three of them for their various contributions in their different areas to the socio-economic and political development of Oyo state, he prayed that the Almighty Allah grant them eternal rest and their families the fortitude to bear the loss.

He also used the opportunity to remind all Oyo state residents on the need to continue to adhere to all the precautions against the spread of the Corona virus as advised by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and other health bodies.

Precautionary measures like physical distancing, use of face mask when going out, washing of hands and covering of mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing must be strictly adhere to by all.

“Fellow Nigerians, I can see you’re already tired of staying at home. After the additional 7 days lockdown, You can go out and enjoy yourself. The rest is between your immune system and God.” President Buhari

When l saw the above statement credited to president Buhari , it touches me. It got me arose that all man for himself.

Fine , those countries who have been on the winning side against Covid -19 Saga went through a serious hard time like total lockdown and their citizens cooperated with them.

The leaders in those countries also did needful by encouraging their followers to stay at home.

With an accurate and a sophisticated data, they were able to reach and touch every home with needed and meaningful palliatives/relief materials.

Thus made it more easier on the part of the followers to obey their leaders when the trying period visited them all.

But reverse is the case in Nigeria. Both leaders and followers are in different sides in my dear country.

Even though we had alot of donors who had come out to donate money and other materials to help Government in the fight against covid-19 , some political harlots would still see those fat donations coming from the good Nigerians as an opportunity to enrich themselves.

That's my country (Nigeria) for your.

Only in this part of the world that we play politics with everything. The fight that supposed to be a collective fight is being handled by only few people. Then, how do we secure the victory in the end?

I understand the fact that this trying period has affected alot of homes and their businesses . But that does not mean we should endanger our lives. Only the brave and survival souls will tell the tale.

Moreover , if total lockdown , social distancing, and personal egen are the only vaccines availabe to cure covid -19 in this part of the world , let's abide by the rules and the suggested precautions.

And the government both at federal and State levels should also think deeply on how to reach out to people in a reasonable way. Not those audio decisions of a thing.

There should semantic actions to make Nigerians see their glass half full rather than half empty.

The fight against Covid-19 is everyboy's business and together we shall win.

A word they say is enough for the wise.
