22nd May 2024 - Bawumia writes:

It was a great pleasure this afternoon, in Accra, as I commissioned a multi-purpose hostel facility for head potters (Kayayei), as well as a training programme, the Kayayei Empowerment Programme for them.

The commissioning of the ultra-modern residential facility and training centre, is in fulfilment of a promise I made to the head potters, on behalf of government, when I visited their hub in Agbogbloshie, Accra, to greet them.

With government adding a training programme to the residential facility, we have moved beyond the promise of addressing their pressing needs, to also offering them transitional job pathways, to enhance their socio-economic status.

The two facilities in Madina and Ashaiman, in addition to more facilities being built in Kumasi and Techiman are expected to rapidly impact the over 100,000 Kayayei in the country and offer them sustainable livelihood.

I am profoundly grateful to the following government agencies: the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Ghana Gas, Ghana Health Service, and BOST, as well as the Father Campbell Foundation, for their collaborative efforts in making this possible.

Many doubted this when the promise was made, but once again, we have proven that with a possibility mindset, and the right partnership, nothing is impossible.

Indeed, it is possible!

🚧 🗞️ ROADS UPDATE: Rehabilitation and Upgrading of the KASOA-WINNEBA ROAD

The Kasoa-Winneba Road Project is progressing steadily. The contractors have given the strong indications that major sections of the road will be substantially completed and opened to traffic before the end of 2024.

To achieve this, the contractors have introduced day and night working schedules.

These were disclosed when Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye inspected the project on 23rd April, 2024, as part of a working visit to the Central Region to inspect ongoing road projects as well as assess the conditions of some critical road infrastructure.

Hon. Asenso-Boakye welcomed the news and noted that, opening major sections of the road to traffic before the Christmas festivities will drastically ease the plight of Ghanaians who have to endure heavy vehicular traffic on that stretch.

🚧🗞️ ROADS UPDATE: Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis will soon heave a sigh of relief as the government is putting in place measures to undertake some interventions on the road network around the PTC Interchange to ease the burden of road users.

Yesterday, 24th April 2024, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye visited the PTC Interchange Project as part of his working visit to the Western Region.

The Minister indicated that the government, through the Ministry of Finance, is “negotiating with its creditors for the resumption of work and completion of the project.”

“I’m aware of the concerns of residents here in Sekondi-Takoradi about the inconvenience that this construction has brought to them and as a result, we are deciding to make sure that a part of the contract is taken out from the main contract with the Sino-Hydro contractors, given to a different contractor with new funding to complete some minimal interventions on the ground here to reduce the inconvenience,” the Minister said.

🚨🗞️: The rehabilitation of the 119km Berekum - Sampa Road Project has started.

On April 2nd 2024, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye handed over the road project to Messrs Rango Construction Ltd at a colorful event at Jinijini in the Bono Region.

The road will be constructed to asphaltic finishing with the provision of drainage structures and road signs.

Speaking at the short ceremony, Hon Asenso-Boakye said the country is “progressively realizing its goal of reconstruction, rehabilitation and maintenance of major and critical trunk roads in all parts of the country.”

According to the Minister the Berekum-Sampa road is a lifeline because “it connects Berekum to the Border town of Sampa and traverses through major cashew growing towns like Jinijini, Japekrom, Drobo, Dwenem, Seketia and Suma Ahenkro.

He said the road will ultimately “enhance accessibility to markets, healthcare,
education, significantly reduce travel time and cost within these communities and also facilitate trade with our neighbouring country of La Côte d’Ivoire.”
