Pompeii, a bustling Roman city located near , was founded in the 6th century BC. It thrived as an important trading hub due to its strategic location near the Bay of Naples.

In 79 AD, disaster struck when Mount Vesuvius erupted, covering the city and its inhabitants in a thick blanket of ash and pumice. The deadly volcanic eruption preserved Pompeii, but tragically, it also led to the deaths of thousands of people.

For centuries, Pompeii remained buried and forgotten until its rediscovery in the 18th century. Archaeological excavations unearthed remarkably well-preserved buildings, streets, and artifacts, providing invaluable insights into Roman daily life.
