Many of you may be wondering which term to use...American Indian or Native American. Many years after Columbus who called them Indians as he assumed he was in India the term changed to American by the Spanish. Native American was assigned by the government. Most prefer American Indian and those who prefer Native American whine that explorers tagged them with American Indian. Yet the government assigned Native American also. But there are Mexican Americans, African Americans, Irish Americans, etc. These terms are descriptive where Native Americans describe anyone born in the United States. I have been struck in using American Indian for this describes indigenous people.
