hey guys this is MirceONE and today we are talking about an album that you need to listen and to have if you are into punk rock. I will add my bias on this as Rancid is one of my favorite bands and although is really hard to pick an album from them, i think …And Out Come The Wolves is one of their best materials up to the present.

I am not going to share the full story of Rancid but just a few details. Formed back in 1991 in Albany, California and they signed with Epitaph (Brett of Bad Religion founder) in 1992. After some success with their first album the self titled and even more with their second material from 1994 called Let’s Go it is time to go back to 1995 and the success of ….And Out Come The Wolves.

Was released in August 1995 and the title is inspired from Jim Carroll poem: The Basketball Diaries. On the album you can hear a lot of Ska influences (if we want to remember the old Operation Ivy with Tim and Matt as members), and the album was a major hit, bringing them all the way to MTV (when they were having some nice music).

The background of 1995 was shared with albums like Dookie from Green Day (released in 1994 but still on heavy play), Stranger Than Fiction from Bad Religion (also from 1994) and of course Smash (1994) from The Offspring. All these albums raised the punk rock wave all the way to the mainstream public. The album had 3 major hits: Roots Radicals, Time Bomb and Ruby Soho, although the whole album in my opinion is a masterpiece with other songs such as: Maxwell Murder, Olympia WA, Old Friend or Journey to the End of the East Bay are one of my favorites.

This is one of the albums from them that on all of it’s 49 minutes i don’t get bored. More this album got Gold in Canada, UK or Australia and Platinum on US…so that is something for these guys from California streets. Another fact is the artwork used for the cover, a tribute to the band Minor Threat (that used the photo of Alec, the brother of Ian MacKaye). I am happy to have this album on CD (the remastered edition from 2004) and happy to have the vinyl (the anniversary edition of 2004) for my personal collection.

24 January in Anexo Independencia prepare for Antagonizers ATL from Atlanta, US with opening from Gameness from Mexico City and Batallón De San Patricio from Guadalajara. Starts at 7PM entry $100. Event from MadHouse

1 February in Casa Oculta in Guadalajara we have one of the oldest hc bands: Grito (celebrating their 30th anniversary) straight from Mexico City. Opening: Antes de Morir from GDL, Siempre De Pie from Mexico City and OMEGA Hardcore from GDL. Start first band 8PM sharp. Entry $100.

1 Feburary in Anexo Independencia we have Kenarban presenting their first album: Temporal. Opening acts: BARRANEGRA from Mexico City. REO punkrock GDL, Resiste from GDL and Bootleg from GDL. Starts 7:30PM. Entry $150

Wolves is set against the East Bay punk music scene from the 90’s, it is a story of grit and dreams in a world of violence. Norman, Moore and Engerman and Zhang play a group of high school friends trying to escape the city they live in.

The escape is not easy as the streets are full of danger at every corner…and they might be devoured when the Wolves come out to hunt.

The drama is inspired by Rancid 3rd studio album And Out Come The Wolves, released in August 1995 via Epitaph Records. The script was written by Jason & Jamie Neese, twin brothers known for their work on Umbrella Academy and Cruel Summer, alongside Peykoff.

Krav Boca presents the new album: Heretic. It is a mix of their crazy and energetic style of metal, punk and rap. Now imagine The Prodigy and Mobb Deep having a blast and some classical piano or black metal elements. This is something crazy on all of their 14 songs…drums, guitars and mandolins everything packed in rapping and energy all the way. This is way beyond the hip hop that you know. The band has members from France, Greece and Morocco and have been touring active thru Europe. Check them out.

Netflix has announced the release of a highly anticipated documentary that chronicles the rise, legacy, and impact of the legendary punk rock band The Offspring. The premiere is set on March 2025 and is called: Come Out and Play: The Story of The Offspring. The band formed in Huntington Beach, California in 1984…so yes there is more than 40 years of history. The documentary will take fans into this long career and will feature some never seen before footage, some exclusive interviews and some behind the scenes. The documentary is directed by Alex Carmichael and it will highlight the band influence on the punk scene. Also of course will include the story behind some of their biggest hits like Pretty Fly For a White Guy from their Americana album in 1998 and of course Self Esteem.

Anong Meron (that’s What’s Up?) in Tagalog. This is MirceONE and today I bring you an awesome band from The Philippines: Ah_F_Kit. To be honest besides another band called Abanglupa I do not know too many bands from Philippines, this band, a friend of mine Carol recommended and now is on repeat. I’m Your Dog has 12 songs (30 minutes) in the old school punk and rock’n’roll with catchy and sing along choruses and must say love the artwork, everything DIY and simple. Remind me of the Ramones with a mix of Dead Kennedys (special on the song Bills or Fog Of War). No effects, just punk rock the way should be. The album is kind of fresh from the Summer of this year and it is on streaming on all the platforms from YouTube, Spotify, Last Fm or Amazon Music, so check them out. Started in 2005 in Constanta, Romania. Not the first punkzine in Romania, but the only one that is still around. Made concerts along the years with bands like: Los Fastidios/La Ghenga Del Fil Di Fero/Manifestation/Determination and local acts like Coercion thru our ECK (East Coast Kids booking). More than 100 interviews and exclusive promos for Romania. Since 2018 is based in Guadalajara, Mexico and starting to promote the underground scene here. Everything is free as long as you are a good person, download our numbers in .pdf for free/print them and share as you like as long as you place our link somewhere. We are trying to support in our free time the bands/labels/promoters in the area of HC/SKA/PUNK/OI. Is not a full time magazine/job, i am trying my best to put few numbers in digital along the year, go to concerts, taking photos and interviews as much as i can.
