Repost from Nemat Sadat's page:

Five years ago this month, Penguin Random House India published my debut novel—a Künstlerroman about a gay Afghan man. opened to wide acclaim and became an instant bestseller; it was also groundbreaking since it was the first depiction of LGBTs in literature to come out of any country in Central Asia. Celebrate in style by buying yourself and loved ones a copy of The Carpet Weaver.

Repost from the page of Roshaniya:

At the start of this Pride Month, we want to thank Roshaniya donors for supporting hundreds of LGBT+ Afghans with evacuation support and humanitarian relief since we began this journey of helping to relocate Afghanistan’s LGBT+ community nearly three years ago.

Today, we want to inform you about our success in recent months. At the start of May, Nemat Sadat traveled to Muscat, Oman to meet the first wave of LGBT+ Afghans we relocated to there thanks to an American donor who funded the cost of their Oman visas. The support that our GoFundMe donors made helped us to get passport renewals, purchase airline tickets and help this group get settled in Oman. We obtained investor visas for them, which allowed them to obtain a residence permit (which they can renew annually) and to open a bank account. We are working to enroll this group in Arabic classes, help them to find a job, and later start a small business so that they can financially empower themselves and emerge as leaders in our community. For example, several of the LGBTs who we recently transferred to Oman have sewing experience and want to start a clothing alterations business. We understand that this group of LGBT+ Afghans who have migrated to Oman will want to live long-term in a western country where they can fully honor their gender identity and/or sexual orientation. This is why we will continue to campaign for them to obtain a humanitarian visa.

Our preferred donor is interested in transferring a total of 12 LGBT+ Afghans to Oman to serve as a test case and if this start-up model works, then it will serve as a powerful case study for other LGBT+ migrants and refugees who have little resources to survive. For now, the situation in Oman, is much better than facing torture and death in Afghanistan or being left in limbo in Iran or Pakistan with no future. We are now in the process of relocating six additional LGBT+ Afghan Human Rights Defenders to Oman. I will be working closely with these individuals so that they can get the proper tools and training to emerge as leaders within our community. If all goes well, we will be moving the next group of people to Oman soon and I will be traveling to the region again to meet them and help them get situated.

So for this Pride Month, we are setting a goal to raise $2250, which will be enough to cover the $375 per person, one-way airline tickets for the six LGBT+ Afghans from Kabul to Muscat.
We are grateful for your generous donations. Thank you.
