Toddler Dinner: Camping Edition pt.3! • After our first full week at school, we’re back in our camper for a long labor day weekend! Today we have “camper pizza” aka tortilla with cheese and pepperoni! A crowd favorite! 😅🍕 everything on their plate today is from @aldiusa ! Today’s toddler Dinner was pretty hard..I tried to hide carrots in the cheese sauce but Elijah was immediately suspicious as soon as he saw it. He was also not happy that the meatballs were touching the noodles. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Being on the autism spectrum, he has a lot of food aversions and things can go wrong very quickly. After some tears, we got him to at least try a small bite(a win!) which he promptly spit out and then more tears. Not every meal is a success. In fact, almost all meals are just picked at but, we keep on trying because in the end, all this effort will pay off. We never force him to try anything but encourage him as much as we can. So for today, he had one of his safe foods instead, chicken fries and rice w/ soy sauce, which is perfectly ok. He tried and that’s all we can ask for. Toddler Dinner! Camping edition 🏕️ • Giving the boys options on their plate is hard and it can be even harder when we camp. We try to make sure to keep Elijah’s safe foods stocked. Thankfully, we have a fridge in the camper that can keep his “sacred cheese” fresh 😂 Not every meal looks like this, even when were home. Sometimes, it’s just chicken nuggets or buttered noodles with cheese and that’s more than ok! Either way, you’re doing a fantastic job feeding your littles! Let’s talk about trying new things! Sometimes it takes a million and one times to have toddler try something new and it can be discouraging but eventually it’ll be worth it! Elijah’s safe food list had grown so much and we wouldn’t have known what he likes or doesn’t like if we didn’t show him what is available to him. • One thing that has worked for us is letting him pick out a few things at the grocery store that he might like to try. Sometimes, he might reject it once it’s on his plate but at least we got that far! We’re back! 😋 | | Since our last toddler meals, a lot has happened! We’ve moved back to IL, had Benjamin Arly, we found out that Elijah is on the Autism Spectrum, I went back to the work force and now going back to being a stay at home Mom! Phew! What a whirlwind the last 2 years have been. • This time around, I want to show you all what typical meals look like for my kiddos. Meal time is not very easy for Elijah. He has a lot of allergies and has sensory processing disorder which makes textures, smells and new foods very hard. It can sometimes be very discouraging to try and make new foods when I know that he probably won’t touch anything and just ask for what he’s comfortable with but we keep trying because you never know! He does feeding therapy & occupational therapy which has helped to expand his safe food list. One meal at a time! • Benji on the other hand will eat pretty much anything and everything!
