If a person completely dissociates themselves from history, they might disconnect from their cultural, social, and historical context. This could lead to a lack of understanding about their own identity, the world around them, and the events that have shaped it. History plays a significant role in shaping individual and collective perspectives, so disconnecting from it could result in a limited worldview. Of course there is adaptation but to say that looking at history is not okay yet shouting the religious card is dangerous. This man, on Friday last, painted himself as an individual who will have no boundaries nor lessons learnt from past politicians.
Element 175 of the Budget 2023/24 talks about revitalising, preserving and promoting the city of Port Louis. Element 175(d) mentioins the pulling down of Anquetil Building to make place for an Anquetil Park.
Refurbishment of Emmanuel Anquetil Building has provisions made from budget year 2022/23 to 2025/26. This year, approximately 20M, next year 40M, 2024 33M and 2025 6M.
So far, what Hurrerram said to the house holds. This is not a project that will be completed overnight, nor does the government have any reason to not invest in ensuring that public servants wokring there do not have basic facilities such as decent air conditioning.
Where this whole answer loses clarity and as a simple citizen of the Republic who is not in government nor has access to information which may help to understand the way the government works, or the vision of the Cabinet, is when Hurreeram gets defensive about the expenditure.
Duval claims that Rey Lenferna has been handed a contract of around 100M to work in the building - statement which the minister does not deny but goes on the motherly nature of the government. Very emotional but ineffective.
It may be that Duval was not good enough in asking the right question or phrased it wrong. I do not know but. How does it make sense, let us think as primary students, to spend over 100M in restructure of a building we know is going to be pulled down?
Has there been a study to show that this is the best way out, instead of renting another building, temporarily, on a yearly basis?
This is not about how "we" or "they" work. This is asking that the tax payers money used is held accountable for.
Is a garden the best solution in that spot? Has any study been done to show that a Park is the demand in that location?
Change is hard, Hurreeram said it. It, therefore, follows that change should be explained slowly, patiently and with serenity. Being presumptuous is not going to help. The same reply could have had a different impact if the approach was
Yellow journalism at its best. After the ruckus we have been made to find normal through the corridors of court houses, court premises, with journalists stating random law sections, making themselves guardians of the Constitution, here is, perhaps not the best, an attempt to try to prevent that from happening within the premises of the National Assembly.
Narain Josadanand works for L'Express, one of the oldest newspapers on the island. Sadly, anyone who has been a reader since at least a decade will vouch that the standard of content has fallen. The satisfaction one had post a read has now turned into a sense of propaganda, anti-government. Nothing works. All institutions are bad. All members of government are demons. Anyone who dares to agree with any policy is a "chatwa" and must be corrupted in some way.
Rajanah Dhaliah, who caused this commotion, is MP and PPS. The man who appeared flabbergasted by the said question is Elvissen Adaken, Press Officer of a member of Cabinet.
That the caption was also sensationalised reflects the "good faith" with which this video was posted. The issue is simple, and no it has little to do with freedom of journalists to work and ask questions. At no point can one assert that he was told not to ask questions or hold so and so accountable. What is being asked for that the sanctity of the premises of the National Assembly be maintained. That one does not turn the corridors into a space to ask about random issues, irrespective of its attributed importance.
@e_l_v_i_s_s_e_n_a_d_a_k_e_n may have a better way to handle the situation? Except for that phone in his hand and in the face of the other individual, I don't think he is being insensitive or rude. There is no reason whatsoever to make it a matter of his character, his professionalism or his intentions "to protect" said Dhaliah. It does not mean he lacks professionalism.
It is quite hard when journalism has been reduced to Lives, investigations to attempts to humiliate other
The concern was that the speech of a member was using animal analogies.
My love for George Orwell's Animal Farm was wounded by this interpretation. We have some beautiful literature to read: Hoore de Balzac's short story, Passion in the Desert, Langdon Smith's poem, Evolution, Jean de La Fontaine Fables
Humans use metaphoe to explore a relationship with nature. Our ability to make and understand metaphore evolve with our ability to create and understand language. Animal metaphors begin with the premise that humans are animals, primates that share physical, behavioural and neural machinery with other primate species. That we can use, understand metaphors make humans the race with brains. Paradoxically, the evolved use of animal metaphors allows humans to conceptualise ourselves as non-animals.
There are courses given at reputed universities to deal with this concept. It is okay to not understand it but it is less okay to ban its use. This approach of banning or cancelling is why once Animal Farm was prohibited in certain countries. Of course each animal was an analogy, but if you give the book to a child who has no clue of the Russian Revolution, it becomes a tale of four paws fighting two feet to eventually adopting a two paws lifestyle. It is about how power corrupts. How greed takes over once you get the taste of. How you forget sharing once you enjoy your position. It is society represented through society, Russian or not.
Putting a literature touch to any speech of our politicians make them more bearable and nuanced. At times even more than what they intended it to be. Forbidding such metaphors is similar to Ligue 1 forbidding Neymar from doing rainbowflicks because the other player has no defense to it and may feel bad.

I think I cracked it. He has issues with listening to two sides, and watching both sides of the House at the same time. He is better with those at the right of the Chamber than those at the left because he does not hear what those sitting to his left say, he does not see.
During the sitting of the 22nd May 2023, for example, he repeated his new rule: apologise if he does not agree with point of orders - no, please do not. Next we shall have judges and magisrates asking barristers to apologise if their points in law do not make it. Please be more crisp, clear and eloquent in which point of order you are making. Cite the section of the Standing Order when need be, but do not apologise if it is rejected.
However, the main observation. The Chair said, with reason, that it is the one who decides. Then, the Minister answering went on to preach moral values. Several times. He might have been Minister of Education in the past but I do not think he wants to leave his current position in cabinet to be the new Speaker of the House - though he is very capable of filling in those shoes. Therefore, it might be right to expect that he does not preach about procedures of the House or on what the population will judge.
Those are but lame techniques to waste time of the Chambers and to present himself in good mannerism but with no content.
One day, in the near future, hope is that the focus stays on what is said rather than how it is said. You can be the best elocutor but have no substance in what you eloquently said.

Everyone will appreciate the gusto with which Pravind Jugnauth explained the nature and pharmacological composition of the products seized from Navin Ramgoolam's house in early February 2015. Just as everyone will note the Prime Minister's somewhat unhealthy relish in reading the carefully prepared note in French, in order to better describe and convey the use of these products.
In the wake of this, others rushed to the defence of the Labour Party leader and his moral compass. Going, in some cases, so far as to suggest that Ramgoolam was, is morality better. Or that they too consumed the same tablets because it is advised for such and such reason.
The Mauritian National Assembly has in Hansed some vile low blows preserved for posterity, something many politicians forget or wished we all had amnesia when it is convenient to their purpose.
Any question with respect to those tablets is usually in bad taste and to settle some political scores. What was saddening was to see individuals who usually claim and assert they are for a different political strategy engage in such useless and futile debate.
1. What was the aim of the question?
2. How did Shakeel Mohamed end up being the advocate for Navin Ramgoolam in our Parliament?

17th of Ramaḍān marks the date of the Battle of Badr.
It was the first time Allāh allowed the Muslims to defend themselves against the persecutors of Makkah
“Indeed, Allāh made you victorious at Badr when you were vastly outnumbered. So be mindful of Allāh, perhaps you will be grateful.“ [Sūrah Āl ʿImrān, Verse 123]
Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati, head of Dasna Devi temple in Uttar Pradesh, is a notorious human being who openly calls for violence against Muslims. At an event named Hindu Jagruti Samelan (Awakening the Kshatriya) organised by Nyay Manch Trust in Noida, recently, he delivered yet another hate speech, calling to eradicate Islam from the planet. He dreams of "invading" Makkah.
My initial feeling to this speech was hurt. Not only does India, one of the Top 5 houses for Muslims in the world, provide such a platform but this will be termed as freedom of speech and not hate speech.
Islam breeds peace. It brings a certain calmness and sukoon. I try my best to spread knowledge of it, in my own style. I sometimes feel when I am faced with a group of non-believers that my faith almost wavers sometimes. Secularism is still my goal. Real tolerance is the aim. Not an intolerant, pluralist, hypocritical setup.
Standing alone with your beliefs in a group who don’t understand you can be quite intimidating. I always have a very strange feeling when talking about God and Ramadan to non-believers. In my heart I know I am speaking the truth but to them it is far fetched nonsense and you can’t help but feel a little ridiculous. For example, explaining that fasting is not depriving your body of energy. That it is not torture. That I am not craving for food every hour of the day. That I am not weaker. That I am not straining my body so much that I am on the verge of collapsing. This is where Allah asks us to be firm and to stand firm in Faith.
Muhammad said: A believer is firmer in religion than a tall mountain. A mountain may shrink [because of
