You Don't Know What Flashing Headlights Mean

POSTED BY CSINATE ON 12/02/2014

Every driver seems to know that when an approaching car's driver flashes his high beams it means cop ahead. That is true in many situations but certainly not the only reason the other drivers do it. I live on a high mesa where there are a lot of animals, mainly deer and turkeys. When I encounter animals in or near the roadway I flash the oncoming drivers of the danger, not only for the safety of the animals but also their safety. Hitting a large animal at an advanced speed will certainly cause (heavy) damage to the car but also many times cause serious injury to the occupants of the car. These are not the only reasons why drivers flash their high beams. What about construction ahead; an accident blocking the roadway; an emergency vehicle partially in the roadway, such as a police vehicle that stopped to assist a motorist or give the driver a citation for a violation; rocks in the roadway in their lane in avalanche-prone areas, or any number of other hazardous obstacles. No need to slam on your brakes sending your passengers through the windshield. But certainly, let up on the accelerator (gas pedal) allowing the vehicle to slow down a bit and be ready to slow down further or stop if necessary. If you're speeding, then, of course, hit the brakes and get back to the speed limit before you get to the spot where the cop is hiding behind the billboard. Of course, as an LEO (retired) I never hid behind a billboard, but around a curve.

In My Opinion (shut down your website)

Recently I came in possession of nearly two dozen knives and other cutlery, not needing them I thought that I'd sell them to a store that sells second-hand goods. By Googling, I came across an antique store that was only a few miles away. The pictures on their site showed many items, including cutlery, so I drove over to the store. The store was no longer there: totally abandoned. Checking with a few other retailers in the strip mall, no one could even remember how long that it had been closed. I posted on the website advising that it was closed, so others won't needlessly waste their time.

In My Opinion
I believe that when a store owner closes up shop he should also delete his website.

"New York Supreme Court reinstates all employees fired for being unvaccinated, orders back pay."

As the bosses who fired them didn't follow or believe in the Constitution, the 8th Amendment doesn't pertain to them; therefore, they no longer have protection against Cruel and Unusual Punishment.

In My Opinion

They now can be tortured.

In My Opinion

Corporations can deduct up to 25% of their income in charitable contributions which really gets them nothing and it's money taken from their bottom line. Instead, if the company gave the purchasers of its goods a discount instead of giving the money to a charity the company or its stockholders would not lose anything.

It would seem that the purchasers are selfish, as no money would go to the charitable organization. But what if the company, instead of contributing directly, they have the purchasers contribute. The company could specify what charity the purchaser had to donate to. What's the difference?

Nothing, as the company would still have the same taxable amount as they would take in less money. The purchaser would be paying the same amount for the goods. Reduced price of goods + charitable contribution = same amount.

Of course, the purchaser would have to provide the company with a receipt for the amount of the contribution up to a certain limit. This doesn't seem to make much sense as the company would still have the same bottom line, the charity would still get the same money, and the purchaser would still pay the same amount. But,

In My Opinion

The purchaser would benefit as he could take the charitable contribution as a deduction on his taxes.

My thought for today

No matter how stupid your boss is you should always do the right thing.

In My Opinion (dangerous situation in medical ads)

This relates to the ad for the Watchman Procedure by Boston Scientific.

Their ad shows an elderly gentleman running towards the end of the dock and jumping into the water. It all seems good for being able to do this after having the medical procedure done, but the ad shows a dangerous situation for the man.

Just before he jumps into the water the little toe on his right foot comes very close to two rusty bent nails sticking up from the last board. If his little toe had caught between the two nails it would have caused a severe injury not only to the toe but would have caused him to pitch forward. The fall could have broken a leg by hitting the front edge of the dock.

Showing a potentially dangerous situation in a medical ad didn't seem right to me, so when it first aired I called the company and advised them about the ad. They took it off the air for a few months but it's back on again.

In My Opinion

Medical ads should not have a potentially dangerous scenario in them.
