NEW ARTICLE: Invasive alien plants at Capraia Island (Italy): distribution and threats to Natura 2000 habitats
LINK: https://plantsociology.arphahub.com/article/115694/

Island ecosystems face significant threats from biological invasions due to their unique biomes. In over a quarter of these ecosystems, the number of alien plants surpasses the total count of native ones, leading to notable impacts. This concern is particularly pronounced in the Mediterranean Basin,...

LINK: https://plantsociology.arphahub.com/article/114343/

This article presents the results of a study on plant diversity at different levels in residual forest stands, located in the historical Favorita Park in Palermo, Italy (established and named in 1799 by King Ferdinand IV of the House of Bourbon). These forest aspects have naturally evolved for over....

Ecosystem restoration is a hot topic in the scientific community and the urgency of a long-term and sustained recovery of biodiverse and resilient nature is increasingly recognised politically, with the European Nature Restoration Law being the first continent-wide law on ecosystem restoration. Venice has long been recognised as the stage of the world and, for its long history of resilience and integration with the natural environment, has been appointed the Sustainability Capital of the World. We are therefore delighted to invite you to the 57th International Congress of the Italian Society of Vegetation Science, where Venice will once again become the world's stage on which ecosystem restoration will be the theme of the play.

NEW ARTICLE: Patterns of floral resources and pollination interactions along dry grassland succession
LINK: https://plantsociology.arphahub.com/article/115498/

Succession following the abandonment of traditional management practices can pose severe consequences for the conservation of semi-natural dry grassland communities. In the present study, we investigated whether the quantity of floral resources changes during succession of semi-natural dry grassland...

NEW ARTICLE: Cork oak (Quercus suber) in the dynamism of a forest landscape shaped by fire on Monte Pisano (Tuscany N-W, Italy)
LINK: https://doi.org/10.3897/pls2023602/04

The plant landscape of Monte Pisano is characterized by a predominant forest component, with Pinus pinaster and Castanea sativa, of clear anthropic imprint. Another important component is constituted by dynamically advanced scrubs and woods of evergreen sclerophylls of natural origin, although often...

NEW ARTICLE: Habitats Directive in northern Italy: a series of proposals for habitat definition improvement
LINK: https://plantsociology.arphahub.com/article/102894/

Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) is the cornerstone of nature conservation in Europe and is at the core of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. There is room, however, for its improvement, at least for northern Italy, where ambiguities in the definition of habitat types of Annex I of the Habitats Di...

Freshwater ecosystems are crucial for biodiversity conservation. They are among the most threatened habitats in the world. However, the wetlands of southern European mountains still lack fine-scale plant community studies. Here we studied submontane and montane palustrine communities of the Tuscan-R...

The vegetation of coastal sand dunes is characterized by high species diversity and comprises some of the rarest vegetation types in North-Western Europe. Among them are dune grassland communities whose species richness relies on grazing. Those communities are assessed as a priority habitat type und...

Bryophytes are a group of land plants of small size but with a large ecological impact. Although the bryophytes display high species diversity, a major limitation in their use as study organisms has been the lack of basic floristic, ecological, and alpha-taxonomic knowledge in many regions. The dist...
