Well, well ... 7.5 yrs and it's the last Melting Pot.
I'll be playing some special music of course - mostly music I associate with people because tonight is about the people that make up the show.
We built a little community. That's been the most rewarding thing. I've made new friends and reconnected with old ones.
I've shared many beautiful moments with you over some of my favourite music.
And of course, I've deepened my own knowledge of music; I hope you did too.

' ... and all good things, they say, never last'

And so it is, with a heavy heart, that I am bringing the Melting Pot to a close. It's been a magnificent 7.5 years here on 902fm, but for various reasons, I feel I can no longer keep the show on air.

I'd like to thank each and every one of you who tuned in over the years, contributed to the chat here or on Mixcloud, or who just liked a post on this page ! You've all made the journey a special one. I hope you've enjoyed it too and that your music collections have grown in size as a result of the show. I know mine has !!!

And massive thanks to the people at 902fm, for giving me a platform to express my musical taste, despite having a ban on jazz music when I started 🤣. You've been amazing ...

And finally, special love to my family who've put up with me spending half of my free time on the show 😘

Join me for an emotional last show this Thursday, where I will be playing two hours of wall-to-wall Melting Pot classics from the show's archives.

So Melting Pot friend and inspiration, guitarist Pat Martino left the planet a few days ago. Tonight we give him a proper send off with a couple of huge cuts from the man. RIP and love forever for the jingle !!

He's not alone in having passed away as we also salute Manchester house pioneer, Andrew Barker of 808 State and library musician without peer, Alan Hawkshaw. Music from them in the show too.

To lighten the mood, we get into Vels Trio 's new album; and an incredible new piece from Scrimshire with Cleveland Watkiss.

And look out for the reissues, new compilations and all sorts besides ...

It's been another tough week for the music community. This time we lost Dr. Lonnie Smith, king of the Hammond; we said goodbye to Melvin Van P*ebles, whose films galvanised Black American cinema; and P*e Wee Ellis, James Brown's partner in funk and legendary band leader in his own right, passed away. RIP to all of them, and a large chunk of the show is dedicated to their music.

We've got new music from Tenderlonious on Music; a timely reissue of a classic Di Melo MPB album; as well as a reissue of a piece of Blue Note history: Donald Byrd's Places and Spaces.

But good stuff tonight ... Numero Group have an anthology of Pastor T. L. Barret out, so definitely something from him. Mali Hayes has a gorgeous new single out, and we have more new music from Josef Akin.

We'll also be celebrating the music of one of the biggest hidden names of 90s/2000s American pop music, Chucky Thompson, who passed away earlier this month.
