During this live event, I'll be reading from my forthcoming novel, Reclaiming Mni Sota: An Alternate History of the U.S. - Dakota War of 1862. The novel, which comes out October 10, is an eye-opening portrayal of one of America's most tragic, regrettable events. Told through dual narratives from each side of the conflict, Reclaiming Mni Sota confronts America's history of settler-colonialism while illuminating the personal stories and heartrending choices that men and women, white and Native, were forced to make. Based on real events told through descriptive detail and fully developed characters, Reclaiming Mni Sota reveals the truth of our history while connecting it to the present and asking readers to question how things could have been different.

Reclaiming Mni Sota is an alternate history that re-imagines the U.S. - Dakota War of 1862. In it, the Dakota and Ojibwe join forces to defeat the white-settler population of the state and reclaim the land as Mni Sota Makoce, a Native held and governed land.
What if Minnesota were Mni Sota Makoce, a Native held and governed land? Reclaiming Mni Sota, a forthcoming alternate history novel by Colin Mustful tries to answer that question.

“I laid my hand on her waist, crossing in front of her. “Do you know what the Irish say about bluebell woods?” I asked, tugging on her hand.
She followed, allowing me to lead her.
“They say they’re enchanted.” I turned back to her with a smirk. “That fae use them to lure people into their world and trap them there.”
— Stars on Fire
While in Flanders, Holden comes across a sea of bluebells—or as he calls them, Faery Ringers—blanketing the floor of forest near Voormezele. There are many folkloric nods in Stars on Fire, but in this particular scene Holden’s Irish roots shine through his usual staunch agnosticism. Superstition says that walking in bluebells may lead you to become 'pixy-led,’ or dazed by enchantment and unable to find your way out of the woods. Whether or not Holden believes in the Fair Folk, he mentions them playfully throughout the book.

In this Reel by Kate Thompson - Author, author of The Little Wartime Library, she shows how, in wartime, millions of women followed the Beauty is Your Duty propaganda campaign and wore red lipstick in the factories and dancehalls, not because the government told them to, but because, especially in the proud working class east end, looking good has always been a badge of honour! Elegance and glamour on a shoestring.
