THE FULL CATALOG PODCAST WILL HAVE ITS GRAND OPENING JANUARY 10TH, 2023!
The Full Catalog is a music podcast hosted by Phil Kennedy and Tony Whitby, reviewing The Full Catalog (complete discographies) of various important and popular musicians, album by album, with no restrictions on genre. We will generally dedicating one episode to each studio album, and any noteworthy compilations and or live album's in an artist's catalog, plus a prologue and epilogue episode (to steal from book terminology) for each artist.
Our goal is to look at the historical significance, and sphere of influence for each artist, specifically, by studying the music itself, how it was made, and what it was influenced by, or would go on to influence. We have carefully selected our first 3 artists George Strait, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Cypress Hill, and will be reviewing each of these 3 artist's full catalog during our grand opening period.
We have chosen these acts, as we consider them to be ideal starting points for discussion within their respective genres due to their success, and longevity. Furthermore, each of these act's careers have spanned a time within both host's (who are each born in 1981's) lifetimes. These first 3 artists provide a starting point for a journey that can lead literally anywhere.
For the most part we will try to focus on artists who have had, or are even still active in a career spanning multiple decades, and at least 10 studio albums. There will of course be exceptions, for exceptionally influential acts (ie. Nirvana, Jimmi Hendrix, The Notorious B.I.G.) who may have had their careers cut short due to unfortunate circumstances.
With The Full Catalog Podcast, our goal if to introduce our listeners to the music that is beyond the handful of songs that are popular to the radio, and ultimately answer questions such as; Are a given artists most popular songs/albums really their best?; What are some of the hidden gems or deep cuts that you should definitely add to your playlist?; and What is the historical relevance of a given artist, and the untold stories behind the creation of the music?
At the end of each episode, Tony will give three ,usually, deep cuts (non-singles) from each album that he recommends listening to. Phil scores each song on a scale from 1/10 and gives a composite rating for each album.
