From the desk of High Inquisitor Harold Margraves: Desdemona Valmaris
What more is there to say of the events surrounding Ms. Desdemona Valmaris other than “tragic”? Months ago, her husband, Calvin Valmaris, a known radical politician, was targeted in some form of poisoning attack. Though he managed to survive, it left him rendered in a comatose state. Mr. Valmaris was not the only one who fell victim that night, however. The pair’s only child, a girl named Evangeline, similarly succumbed, but unfortunately died. The motive for the attempt on the politician’s life was never disclosed, but the message it was meant to send was undoubtedly conveyed.
Ms. Valmaris was understandably distraught. Those in mourning claim that they would go to great lengths in order to find meaningful ways of coping with the grief. And that is just what she did, in the unconventional form of seeking aid within my jurisdiction. Her decision to involve one of the Luminari’s most promising Inquisitors was truly her mistake. Now she is in possession of an Old Arkovian relic that was stolen from our own Vault for her to freely use. It must be returned before any real damage can be done; the board was sealed away in that tomb for a reason, after all...
If it were not for the tip from the matron of the Valmaris estate, the Luminari surely would have wasted precious time searching for that relic in the wrong places. I will be tending to this matter personally, and bring Ms. Valmaris in for incarceration. Perhaps a few weeks of intensive interrogation in the citadel will bring the childless mother back to her proper senses…
