Not quite something to panic about yet, but the tropics are trying to wake up again heading into the first week of August. At least that's what the EURO has been locking onto the last few runs.

At this point, more than anything, it's just a reminder that we're heading into the busiest part of the season. So we'll likely be tracking more named storms soon.

What a map to see for late July! A major pattern change will take place this week and bring a break from the extreme heat across much of the eastern half of the US.

Average highs run from the upper 80s to the mid 90s across these areas. So expect to see some highs several degrees cooler than average. Rain and storm chances also look to increase across the south during this time.

Keep our friends across the west in mind, though, there's always a flipside in weather. Where the east will cool down, the west will stay miserably hot.

Hurricane Beryl is a very powerful Category 4 storm with winds around 155mph but there is good news to share.

Beryl’s structure has taken a hit from wind shear coming in the the west. This has led to a more lopsided look on satellite instead of having the nearly perfect circular structure it had yesterday.

Beryl is expected to continue weakening due to the shear increasing and some drier air being pulled into the storm.

Lots of rain is expected to fall across southern Texas today as continues to draw closer. Winds are also on the rise and a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued to cover that. Most will see winds around 30 - 40mph but some could see wind gusts up to 50+mph.

So far the system still lacks the structure to be classified as a tropical storm, but the NHC notes that it's likely it will achieve enough organization to be named later today.

Tropical Update: Still tracking an area of low pressure in the SW corner of the Gulf of Mexico this morning.

The system remains pretty disorganized, but does stand a chance to do some strengthening over the next 2 days or so before making a landfall in Mexico or extreme southern Texas.

If it can reach 40mph winds, it will be named Alberto, but even if it doesn't, it's not hard to see where the heavy rain from this system will be (western Gulf States).

Still keeping an eye on the Gulf of Mexico for some tropical development. While heavy rain and some windy conditions still look plenty likely for northern Mexico and Texas, I still don't think this area will form into anything too strong.

It will throw some rain towards much of the western half of the Gulf States.
