Matilda House

Inspired by the several impressive Portuguese bungalows that abut the streets of Goa, and written by a frequent contributor to the op eds, Matilda House melds traditional haunted house stories with a perspective on post-colonial nationalism.

We are also moving away from a monthly model to a more rolling cadence. We will now publish stories as per our submissions intake.

Taking Stock, by Pallavi Rao

The story is an alt-history inspired by the persisting colonial hangover that haunts modern-day India, despite the country's tiitanic freedom struggle, ambitious Constitution and deep, sometimes problematic love, for for its own roots.

Pallavi Rao is a financial journalist based in Mumbai, India. Her fascination with the stock market, the economy and all things business began when her father dragged her to a mutual fund seminar that served excellent hors d'oeuvres. She is currently attending grad school at the University of British Columbia.

A young journalist reports on a familiar brother-against-brother corporate war in a Bombay where the British never left.
