Equity Sister Katona here. So honored to be invited to be part of such greatness. I have watched my friend of many years and members of my family build, grow, evolve, and lead in the fight for our people and communities. As always I am inspired and motivated by their work. So many amazing black women have inspired me to do the work I do. I wouldn’t be where I am today, without them. Some people inspire by words but these women and those honored inspire by action. Here are some pictures from the event.
Hi everyone, this is Katona, from the Equity Sisters. This Black History Month I worked on this project to highlight the beauty and versatility of black hair through the years. As Olivia Hancock explains, For Black people, hair isn't "just hair." Our hair is our crown, and the celebration of it as such is deeply woven into our ancestral history. But, often, the coils, locs, and braids we proudly wear are deemed "unkempt" and "unprofessional" for public spaces. Black hair has been unjustly policed everywhere, from offices to classrooms, for decades. In an effort to eliminate hair discrimination, many cities and states have begun passing legislation that addresses this issue.
