Inspiration

We are made clean by Jesus, forgiven through His death. And though we are no longer bound by the trappings of ritual and regulation, God calls us to use our freedom wisely. Let us be mindful of our impact on others, and not let our choices and actions become a distraction or an impediment to those who are still lost.

Inspiration

Constrained by time, we see and experience what is now. We no longer feel what once was, and we do not yet see what will be. We were made for eternity, but sometimes time blinds us to the fullness of God’s beauty. Yet God promises beauty in its time, even if it’s not in the moment that we observe now.

Inspiration

When Jesus gives us instructions, do we willingly obey, or do we try to negotiate? Do we want to love all of our neighbors, or do we try to select just the ones that are easy to love? We must guard against trying to bend Jesus’ words to fit our will. Instead, we must hear all of His words- even the ones that challenge us- so that we can be prepared to walk in full obedience to Him.

Inspiration

God has a plan for us. And sometimes, His plans are different from ours. Even the good things that we want to do may interfere with doing the better things that He has in mind for us. We must keep watching and listening for His instruction. And when we encounter obstacles, we must seek Him in prayer for further direction.

Prayer

Lord, sometimes Your words are difficult to believe. Sometimes Your presence seems to elude me. Sometimes, I have questions and need answers. Please speak to me in my moments of doubt, give me sight where I need sight, wisdom where I need wisdom. Help me to trust in You as You lead me through and beyond my doubts. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Inspiration

God knows what is best for us. He calls us to repentance because it is good for us to be forgiven and cleansed by Him. He calls us to trust Him instead of our own strength because He knows our weaknesses and limits. When we follow our own will, we make our journey harder. But when we are faithful to Him, we find rest for our souls.

Inspiration

Deceivers never admit that they are lying. The same is true of deceivers that purport to speak in Jesus’ name. They may use the right words, and their ideas may sound compelling, but only Jesus is the way to the Father. Jesus has given us His example and His word so that we may be discerning and wise, and prepared to resist deception.

Inspiration

Our speech reveals what is in our hearts and minds. Are we full of wisdom and grace, or are we on a course toward destruction? When we speak with love and truth, setting aside malice and deception, God’s grace is revealed in us. But when our words are careless, we not only harm others, but we reveal ourselves to be untrustworthy, bringing down judgment upon our own heads.

There is no malice in genuine love. Love always seeks what is good and right for others. And as every parent knows, sometimes it takes the wisdom of standing firm to keep loved ones from harming themselves. Love both provides and protects. Especially when others are blind to their own needs and danger, love compels us to be prepared to respond, for the sake of doing what is good and right.

When we chase after material wealth and power, we invite pride into our attitudes. It is pride that causes us to look down on those with less money, prestige, or influence. But God made a lowly shepherd into a great king and a group of uneducated fishermen into a church. Let us not forget that He does some of His greatest work through the people this world dismisses.

Still, all wealth is only with us for a short time and can be gone in an instant. Only God, who gives us all things, is worthy of our trust.

The rules and regulations of the law are incapable of saving us, but they are far from worthless. For the law reveals the character and will of God and His desire for our community and our stewardship of His creation. So we are wise to not toss the law aside because we’ve been saved by grace. Rather, we are to understand the law and strive to obey, so that through us the grace of God may be made known to others.

Sometimes we feel like mere spectators while others do great things. We might even feel useless or forgotten. Yet even the common sparrow is not forgotten by God. We may not be able to tell one sparrow from the next, but God knows them each intimately and provides for all of them. Imagine then, how much more consideration He gives to each of us, who are made in His image.

INSPIRATION

Most of us pray for patience in trying situations. But we would prefer to not have to use patience at all. We’d prefer that God provide a quick solution and move us along to something better. But patience and perseverance are valuable tools that God uses to shape us and grow us into a maturity of faith that we could never achieve if He always answered us with a quick fix.
