CAPARAS, YBIOSA OF TEAM PHILIPPINES WIN FINAL SLOTS IN WORLD PHOTOGRAPHIC CUP 2024

Filipino photographers Erich Caparas and Jophel Botero Ybiosa have made it to the finals of the World Photographic Cup 2024, the global photo competition billed as the World Olympics for photography.

Erich Caparas clinched 3 winning photos in the Illustrative Portrait, Natural Portrait, and Commercial categories while Jophel Botero Ybiosa made it to the Reportage/Photojournalism category.

The WPC was founded in 2013 as a cooperative effort by the Federation of European Photographers (FEP) and the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). It aims to unite photographers in a spirit of friendship and cooperation.

While recognizing the undeniable impact of Artificial Intelligence, the WPC said it remains committed to upholding its long-standing principles and has decided not to accept AI-generated images in the 2024 edition of the world photo contest.

The ceremonies for the WPC Awards are scheduled in Dallas, Texas, USA in April 2024.

For a good long while now, we have lived in relative peace. But the US wants Pax Americana -- total domination of all the world. Another big nation, Russia, felt threatened with US expansion via NATO. Now, we have this mess in Ukraine, death and destruction where there should have been none. Politicians are playing out their dumb power games and innocent soldiers and civilians are paying the price. We need a new perspective, a new look at our world. Or we would all perish. At least one madman now has his finger on the nuke button.

Russia's bombing of a nuclear power plant in Ukraine is a foretaste of a looming nuclear danger. Our choices appear to have boiled down to these: 1) US and NATO to intervene directly and risk nuclear war and maybe terminate Putin's regime, or 2) Zelenskyy to get out of Ukraine to leave the world in peace and fight another day. Any other choices?

Vladimir Putin is losing the war in the eyes of the world. He has overreached into Ukraine. He could have stopped at Luhansk and Donetsk and just protected the Russians there. Instead, he went in and wreaked havoc inside an area that genuinely hated him. His monstrosity created a deep impact on 70 years of German policy of not sending arms to conflicts anywhere. Now, Germany is sending arms to Ukrainian defenders who have shown themselves to be valiant underdogs. Slowly but surely, Putin is losing world public opinion. He could lose his head soon.

Trump may have sounded off-key when he said the Ukraine war would not have happened if he were still president, but he's right. There would have been no NATO had he stayed in office and therefore no security concerns for Putin, and Trump would have drawn Russia closer to the US. Then the US would "pivot to Asia" with Russia on its side. Today, Russia is closer to China instead. The 2008 Bucharest declaration to expand NATO was wrong.

War happened in Biden's watch, the bungled withdrawal from Afghanistan happened in Biden's watch. His Build Back Better is in shambles. Where are you leading the world, Joe?

Russian forces have completely taken Kiev and all of Ukraine without much bloodshed. Putin and Zelenskyy talk in Minsk.

Zelenskyy: F**k those Westerners! They're all talk and sanctions that don't mean a thing. They're all talk, no action. They left me and Ukraine hanging.

Ukraine President Zelensky threatens to scrap the 1994 Budapest Security Assurances and calls for a new security arrangement at the Munich Security Conference. In effect, he told off the US and NATO for dragging their feet. His message: "Do the sanctions now, not after Russia has invaded Ukraine!"
