Out of the Grave Episode 19 — Joseph Rojas

The life of Joe Rojas, Seventh Day Slumber (SDS), had a rough start: growing up without a father, drug addiction, in and out of jail for years…until he came to Christ. Tune in as he talks about, among other things, the band’s struggles over the years, how his son came to be their (amazing) drummer, his advice to younger bands about the enticements of fame, and the recent, online debate over SDS playing the SXSW Festival in Austin, TX with controversial evangelist Todd White. To the so-called “keyboard theologians,” whose comments were, in his words, “venomous,” Joe warns: “You come in the name of the Lord, but your heart is far from Him.”

Episode 18 – Wayne Nale

The excitement of being part of the San Francisco Bay area thrash metal music scene in the late 70s/early 80s (Metallica, Exodus, Testament) was eclipsed by Wayne Nale's out-of-control drug habit. He eventually grew so dangerous his own grandparents slept with knives under their pillows for fear of what he might do. Today, Wayne is an Outreach Pastor, Addiction Advocate and Christian heavy metal concert promoter, shining the light of Christ directly into the heart of darkness.

Episode 17 — Beni Santibanez

Beni grew up in a broken home, and fell into the gang life at a young age. Drugs, s*x and violence were his way of life, until Jesus suddenly reached down and plucked him out of his harrowing situation. Today he is the founder of Hope 4 Da Hood Ministries (https://hope4dahood.com/), and he and his team are reaching those trapped in the same darkness which once held him captive.

Malik Ore’s childhood was tumultuous, to say the least. His home was a hotbed of alcoholism and abuse, and then his father separated him and his brothers from their mother for four years. To escape the madness, he decided to begin dealing drugs in order to make his dream of becoming a rock star come true. Thankfully, God salvaged Malik from the savagery. He is now a hard-working young man with a fiancé, and the unique privilege of being one of the founding members of the Christian progressive death metal band Sacred Throne. On this episode, we have guest Trey Weddle (son of cohost Rob Weddle, and stellar drummer for the Christian metal band Sacred Throne). Trey shares with us his struggles with making friends in the past due to a speech impairment, and he also shares with us the darkest time of his life - the loss of his baby daughter, Rosalee. Trey's faith did not fail, but grew even stronger and brought him closer to God. This is our most emotional episode to date, and through Trey's testimony, it is our prayer that it can also bring you closer to our Lord.
