Happy Juneteenth! My ancestors may have gained independence in 1776, but many didn't including my daughter, River's, ancestors.

Attending the Juneteenth festival and the African America museum on Saturday, you could tell from visiting the booths and seeing the exhibits that River felt seen and heard in a way I've never truly been able to give her.

Today matters. It's not woke, it's not a liberal agenda, and it's not pandering. Today. Matters. Again, happy Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrated annually on June 19. It honors the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in a Confederate community in Galveston, Texas, who were notified that they had been freed — two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. https://abcnews.visitlink.me/Ht56tP

Victoria "Vicki" Eagleman was last seen July 28th, 2006 on the Lower Brule Lakota Reservation in South Dakota. On August 23rd, 2006 her body was discovered by volunteers searching for her. Her murder remains unsolved.

Vicki, who was Lower Brule Lakota, had recently moved back home to the reservation to live with her parents after her recent divorce. On July 28th Vicki told her mother June that she was going swimming with a group of friends. She was with her boyfriend, her sister, and her sister's boyfriend. Vicki's boyfriend told June that she dropped him off at June's home without Vicki saying where she was going. Vicki was reported missing a few days later.

June has said that Vicki was a victim of domestic violence and had several explosive relationships with men, including her current boyfriend. She had once come home with a head injury that needed 33 stitches.

On August 23rd, community search volunteers found Vicki's body stuffed into a culvert just off the Native American Scenic Byway in Lower Brule along Medicine Creek. She was n**e and there was evidence of sexual assault. Cause of death was likely blunt force trauma to the face. The clothing she was wearing at the time - a tan shirt with spaghetti straps, jean shorts, a light blue scarf and flip-flops - were never found. Her glasses were found by her children a block from their home. A ring was also later found. Crime scene photos were later found, in a baffling situation, on a sidewalk in Lower Brule and her files were found outside the police station. No one has ever been charged in her murder.

There is a $5,000 reward through the FBI and a $15,000 reward from the Lower Brule PD in Vicki's case. If you have any information in the murder of Victoria Eagleman please call the Lower Brule PD at 605-473-5444.

It all began with Zoey Felix & a 911 call. This little girl captured our hearts. Her brutal murder angered us for justice. But in our research we found the suspect Mickel Cherry was not the only one to look at in this case. Zoey’s mother had thrown Zoey out of her home. But could there have been a reason? Zoey had her father but he was living in a homeless encampment. Authorities knew this. Neighbors, the school, & strangers all called DCF as well as Topeka Police concerned for Zoey’s welfare. Those calls to a system that did not do its job. In our research we found numerous cases of children who lost their lives after DCF was warned they were in danger. In our new series we cover those children & all they failed by. We call to action change. Join me & Deb from as we tackle a broken system full of little victims.
