It’s fierce, it’s raw, it’s wild, it’s beautiful, it’s challenging. It’s what every coastline before this has been training us for. This week, we are jumping straight into a new season and coastline, kicking it off with a 36-hour sail that takes us deeper south and into a new world. We're looking forward to seeing you over on the tube for the start of this new wild season! https://youtu.be/5iPI9gBR-EU

In our sailing lap of Australia, there’s always a huge sense of achievement coming to the end of a coastline. But with the end of one, we stare down the barrel of another huge stretch of unfamiliar coast and waters, which may be the most treacherous yet. But then again, this coast has been nothing but gruelling. This week we’re plunging into the last stretch of Australia’s western coastline and sailing to our turning point into the Southern Ocean. Can't wait to see you on the tube for the season finale of The Wild West! https://youtu.be/Ef7ZgSAmX94

We’re currently aboard our sailboat in Australia’s southwest corner, an area of wine vineyards, blustering winds and great white sharks. Since dropping south into great white territory we’ve been feeling a little on edge. In the water, it’s hard to shake the feeling that there are great whites lurking but when you have a shark instinct, you most likely should trust it. This week we are sailing and diving the beautiful waters of the south-west and get out of the water just in time 😳 We're looking forward to see you back on the tube https://youtu.be/ovz6Q3B6G2c

⛵️ LAST-MINUTE SAIL TRAINING SPOTS AVAILABLE ⛵️
Hey all, just thought I'd put this out to you all in case anyone is interested! As you may know, my (Soph's) dear mother is a RYA sail training instructor and she has just had some last-minute spots become available for her upcoming 5-day sail training course running next week from the 14th to the 18th of October. This 5-day training will involve hopping around the beautiful anchorages of Moreton Bay aboard the lovely Fika and will allow you the opportunity to gain an RYA qualification and develop your sailing skills! I know it's last minute but this might be a great opportunity to get some more sea time under your belt. If you're interested and would like some more details please email my mum, Annette, her email is [email protected] and mention us within your email and she will be sure to look after you 😊

Thanks guys! Hope everyone's week is off to a good start and we will hopefully see you on the weekend!

After years of washing ourselves and our dishes in a bucket, things are getting a little more luxurious aboard Nakama. This week we are exploring Australias south west corner, touching the very end of the worlds longest wooden jetty and we learn from a local how to forage underwater for abalone! This week is about relaxing aboard Nakama before we turn the corner out of the calm waters of Geographe Bay and face the full brunt of the Indian Ocean once again. Hope to see you over on the tube 😊 https://youtu.be/kHLwRNQBOR0

Hey guys, no video this week, we've been flat-out working on something a little different and very exciting, but an entirely different project than we're used to. Unfortunately for you lot, this project consumed our entire week and brain power, so there is no edit but if you're curious as to what we've been up to, you can head over to our patron page to catch up on what's been going on behind the scenes at Nakama HQ! https://www.patreon.com/sailingnakama
Otherwise, we're excited to catch you all bright and early next weekend!

Cheers you legends, hope your weekends are treating you well and we will catch you soon!

We have become stranded on an unfamiliar beach while our boat drifts out to sea. Yep, we lost our tender! Worse yet, in an attempt to rescue the boat (in a children's pool toy), Slim gets hassled by a shark. Join us this week as we do our best to get Nakama ready for passage into the Southern Ocean, and just as things are starting to fall into line, they begin rapidly falling apart.

For the last 700 nautical miles, we have been bashing our way south into strong headwinds on our way towards the Southern Ocean. The last couple of months of sailing to windward has taken a toll on the boat but probably more so on us. So, as we approach the civilisation of Perth, we’re looking forward to recharging our batteries as well as making a few upgrades to better prepare Nakama for the next leg of our circumnavigation of Australia. We wake on a very soggy boat before meeting the local residents of Rottnest Island. We also pick up a crew member for our trip across to Perth, where we show him what not to do when coming into a marina...We honestly thought we had just sailed over halfway around Australia only to end up on the rocks out the front of a sailing club...what a way to make an entrance! Looking forward to seeing you over for this week's video! tube https://youtu.be/8Wk8IIW24R4

Happy Father's Day to all the Aussie dads today and all the other dads whenever it is your day to be celebrated! We hope you all have a relaxing day.
We apologise that we will not be providing you with an edit today due to our own family commitments. Sailing around the country it's not often we get the chance to see family so when we get the opportunity as you can imagine, we don't want to spend our time sitting on our laptops. But we're back to editing this week to have a new video for you next weekend! So if you missed last week's video this is the perfect opportunity to catch up before we continue our journey towards the Southern Ocean! https://youtu.be/daQMrWuVVN4
Cheers guys, hope you're having a great weekend and we will catch you soon!

Hey all, it's not often we do this but as the owners are great mates of ours and SV Hagar whom some of you may have recognised featured in a bunch of our recent videos,(including where she towed us away from drifting into the reef)

Hagar is currently up for sale as the owners have upgraded to a bigger boat on the East Coast.

We had a few questions about Hagar when she towed us in to safe anchorage a while back, so we figured there may just be someone among the viewers who liked the look of her and may have been looking at buying an adventure boat themselves,

So we thought we would drop this link here 🙂 feel free to check her out!

You might have thought we had finally overcome the cruel wild West Coast. But as this week proves, it’s not finished with us just yet…This week we’re tackling the final major leg from the Abrolhos Islands towards Perth, a passage we won’t forget. We're soon to discover the turmoil that's created when a strong south-flowing current collides with a strong southerly breeze. And if making our course wasn’t already challenging enough, cray pots are scattered in clusters, each one a potential hazard, threatening to ensnare our keel, prop and rudder. Welcome to another unforgettable leg of our adventure down The Wild West Coast! Can't wait to see you over on YouTube now 😊 https://youtu.be/daQMrWuVVN4

A shipwreck on the Abrolhos Islands leads to mutiny, murder and s*x slavery. 400 years later we are back to retrace the steps of the mutineers and castaways that were left stranded here after the Batavia ship ran aground on Morning Reef in 1629. Luckily for us, learning from the tales of explorers well before our time and aided by modern-day navigation, we made it to the Abrolhos Islands unscathed. So in contrast to the hellish existence the Batavia survivors had here, we're frolicking around this stunning archipelago catching an abundance of beautiful crayfish with our friends and feasting together as we cook up our fresh crayfish catches. Can't wait to see you over on the tube for this one! https://youtu.be/W1tRTVmtA2w

We’re pushing back offshore, sailing towards a cluster of remote islands. The Abrolhos Islands prove to be a slice of paradise amongst the wild, vicious and unpredictable Indian Ocean. We're making milestones this week, finally catching and cooking lobster, and getting back into the boat life that makes having your head in the diesel tank all worth it! Looking forward to seeing you over on the tube for this action-packed video 😊 https://youtu.be/2SiUWMCoZfI?si=6DGUJuUDPEsiUhoM

The coast of Western Australia stretches over 2,500 nautical miles, this is a distance greater than from the east to west coast of the entire United States. We’re beating our way down this mammoth coast into strong prevailing southerly winds. Nakama, our wee 34-foot sailboat is proving she was built for the task, but all this bashing has churned up the dormant monster living in our fuel tank, causing our engine to breakdown in the most crucial moments. We’ve gotten ourselves to a spec of civilisation to tackle this beast head-on. It's going to be a messy and challenging task, but we're determined to get our boat back in tip-top shape and to rid the diesel bug from our tank to continue our adventure south towards the Southern Ocean. Looking forward to seeing you on the tube! https://youtu.be/ytJ-5pHb2W4

After a nightmare sail where we lost important systems on our boat, we are stuck in remote Western Australia until we can get Nakama back up and running. Time is of the essence, we need to keep moving south, not only to get to some civilisation to make repairs but to try to keep up with the change in seasons as we make our way towards the Southern Ocean. This has been the toughest part of our journey around Australia so can't wait for you to join us as we battle the west coast! https://youtu.be/tujknVflxnQ
