Hello class, today I will be giving you a little history lesson about one the greatest women of all time: The Notorious Ruth Bader. This lady is the second woman ever to sit as justice in the Supreme Court - where she served for 27 years - as she fought tirelessly for Women’s rights. It is thanks to Ruth that gender-discrimination is now barred by law. We must pay tribute to this incredible woman for dedicating her life to ensuring gender equality become the norm. What else do we know about Ruth’s many accomplishments? RIP RBG 1933-2020. 👑

I am embarrassed to admit that I have spent many of my adolescent years disassociating from my cultural heritage. As an immigrant to Canada all I really wanted was to ‘fit in’ but I was always ostracized and picked on for being brown. Times have changed though, and being a racial minority is no longer the disadvantage it once used to be. Now that I have stepped into my power, I actually feel privileged to come from a background that is so rich in culture, flavour and diversity.

It is unfortunate that to this day, many women worldwide are forced to live in oppression and silence their opinions, hopes and dreams. Although my radical self-expression and free-spirited personality is frowned upon by my culture, I hope that my independence and ambition serves as an example for women to stand up and fearlessly pursue their own passions.

This iconic photograph of Sharbat Gula from National Geographic (1985) has been forever embedded in my memory. Sharbat was a refugee from Afghanistan that fled to North Pakistan and was married at the age of 13. This image is known to be the Mona Lisa of the Middle East and has become a symbol for refugee women. This interpretation incorporates the word “FREEDOM” in arabic across the top and was digitally hand drawn on Procreate. Let me know what you think!

My intention behind this painting was simply to create something unique that would tell more of my personal story. After months of only creating custom artwork for clients, I wanted to paint something original with no specific end goal in mind and to focus only on enjoying the process. The process, as you may have witnessed, was tough because it had many ups and downs as per usual.

The experience made me realize WHY, despite the challenges, I like painting so much. The truth is that I’d rather fixate and stress about little details in the painting than get overwhelmed thinking about the bleak reality of being under another lockdown. Painting is very much like problem-solving on canvas, and these are the types of problems I feel I have the most control over. So for the last few weeks this painting has kept my mind occupied and has been a much needed distraction from our grim reality - an escape if you will. I really do believe in the therapeutic nature of art and I do highly recommend it to anyone seeking to get their mind off things.

I decided to name this painting “MACRODOSE” because after weeks of being stuck and fixating on her face, a psilocybin macrodose actually helped me figure out what was missing. Although it’s not perfect, I do love the juxtaposition of the monochromatic face against the vibrant colors, and this contrast is something I will be exploring further in my next few pieces.

“CREATIVE FRUSTRATION”, 2017. SOLD. 🔴⁣

This painting started out as a custom piece for a friend who wanted me to recreate one of my very first paintings. I probably shouldn’t have agreed to it because I knew it would be impossible for me to recreate. I must have painted over this exact same canvas at least 10 times, every time I’d get frustrated I’d paint it over in black and start all over again until I finally I gave up and let all my frustration out with a palette knife and some paint - and that’s when this happened.⁣
⁣
Immediately I hated it. Still frustrated, I punched a hole in the canvas and buried it in my mother’s basement. I honestly forgot this canvas even existed until recently when I stumbled upon it and this time, when I saw it again, it actually looked like a complete and perfectly imperfect work of art to me. ⁣
⁣
The painting hadn’t changed but obviously my perspective had... we shouldn’t be so quick to judge and dismiss our own work. Often the most unexpected creations turn out to be your greatest discoveries. There’s so much beauty in authenticity... Let it all out. ❤️

The beauty of the Toronto art industry is that there is no competition... Unlike sports and music and every thing else, I don’t need to step on anyone to get ahead in my career. Our individual styles are all so unique, I don’t feel like we can compete. This little community of Toronto artists that I’ve recently been introduced to are more supportive than i ever could’ve imagined. We’re not trying to be better than each other, we’re all just trying to improve... It’s such a beautiful thing to be able to work together, uplift and inspire each other all while sharing the same dream... Together we shall rise ❤️

Presenting the “Symbionic” series - a mixed media collaborative featuring and . The initiative behind this project is to combine our individual strengths and use our platform as artists to create an impact and give back.

Proceeds from this auctioned artwork will be donated to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in support of the movement

The theme for our upcoming series will focus on abstracting iconic figures and enhancing them with the use of various mixed media and bionic appendages that are beyond human and allude to the immortality of celebrity icons.

For our first subject - - we challenged ourselves by taking apart recycled electronics and incorporating them directly into the artwork. Although this was a learning experience for both of us, we’re absolutely thrilled with the result and aspire to continue to push boundaries as we experiment with more innovative ways of combining abstract art, iconic figures and bionic technology.

Introducing Faith- A vibrant, trilingual, self-taught visual artist who resides in Toronto, Canada and specializes in large scale custom artwork and murals.

While she is best known for her dynamic abstract and portrait paintings, her creative expertise also includes festival decor, events, art installations, live painting, and self-led workshops. Faith’s artwork is extremely versatile in both style and subject, allowing her to create lively and unique pieces. Her creative hunger drives her to continually evolve as she experiments with new and innovative ways of playing with textures, technique and styles.

Her profound love for colour and music have always been her main sources of inspiration. Her philosophy is that art is a natural byproduct of the combination of the two. At a young age, she was enthralled by creative DIY art projects which soon became her favourite form of self-expression and therapy. As a mental health advocate, Faith aims to highlight the highs and lows associated with mental illness and capture an important message through her creative process- “Consume less, create more.”

Currently, Faith’s mission is to continuously evolve as both an artist and entrepreneur. As her career progresses, she plans to share her discoveries and journey with the hopes of inspiring others to pursue their own passions.
