Most moms I know wish they had time to read more.
I am one of them. 📚
Some of the best advice I have ever heard to address this was from a podcast with Sarah Mackenzie. She said something along the lines of “Never discount middle grade books.” Books written for kids 8-12. They pack everything you need for a good story without the excessive length. Conquering these books creates momentum.
Since we moved in 2024, it has been particularly hard for me to make time to get back into reading my own books. I was struggling trying to catch up to my previous reading level by grabbing hefty social psych books, only to find it was a huge slog and I need to build up to that again.
So I humbled myself and grabbed something light. A book I have never read, but that was on my childhood list…Hatchet.
Since, I have finally found my flow of reading again and I have gotten back into the habit.
When reading feels hard…grab a middle grade book you *should* have read in the past. Read a little everyday so you maintain the habit. Be gentle with yourself. Then move up from there.
