Walking the aisles of the Fancy Food Show in Las Vegas earlier this year, a gentleman stuck a sparkling wine glass in my face and said “Do you like wine?” I responded, “Is this a joke?” He went on to tell me that this was an Italian non-alcoholic sparkling wine that he and his wife had created. I have tasted many non-alcoholic wines and they all suck. With trepidation, I tasted it. This was a decent wine. I was shocked and impressed. Come on my show I said…turns out he is in So Cal and I met Marco Marano, co-inventor of

It takes humility to be a proper winemaker. Jon Priest is the definition.

Etude Wines is exemplary in its approach to sustainability. When Jon told me during our interview that the sheep were out on the south 40 aerating and churning the soil and mulching the vegetation, it conjured up a vision of old. This type of farming and wine production is a discipline more than a method. It is too easy to let the process go for simpler less sustainable methods. And for Jon, the discipline is real. We got into the weeds (pun intended) on farming, winemaking, community responsibility, and life. Have a listen.

The study of wine will take you all over the world. It is fascinating and intoxicating (pun intended). It is said that all roads of wine curiosity lead to Burgundy. The history, the lifestyle, the wines, and the people.

Meet one of the most influential people who help shape not only today’s landscape of Burgundy but the landscape of Burgundy’s future. Frédéric truly believes there is a steward of the land for the next generations, which takes extreme humility. This is the word I would use to describe best the outlook and contribution to the world of wine that Frédéric brings. Listen to see if you agree.

Side note, the famed HBO show features Louis Jadot’s Beaujolais Villages in S1E3!

Wine and war is a subject close to my heart. I had been studying it when I stumbled across the book of the same name. What a story about the N***s and the French sparring during the N**i occupation during World War II. The detail that Don and Petie were able to convey as to the punches and counter-punches over the wine trade is inspiring and telling. This is a must-know story and a must-know part of wine history. Have a listen.

This guy gets wine. It’s all about the soul. After Matthew Kaner was on the show, we received a call from Keith stating he needed to come on and talk all things wine. After 30 seconds of our initial call, I said "when can you come on?" This guy got it. Wine really is about the soul. It is about transformation. It is about the story. It is about humanity. If you want to really understand the humanity of wine and its impact on the soul, listen to this episode , listen now.

What makes a good sommelier? One may say that it takes passion, communication, knowledge, open-mindedness, exploration, and trust. “ A good sommelier builds trust…. You have to have something for everyone that walks through the door.” That is what Tonya Pitts creates. That is what makes Tonya a great sommelier. It is no wonder she has been named Wine Enthusiast’s
for Sommelier of the Year. She gets it.
Tonya is a gem in the wine industry. She creates and builds trust with all. She is wise and profound.

I recently went back to this episode with Tonya, and listening to her talk is so refreshing. Conversation with her is rich and full, like a good wine. And it was a pleasure having such a humble pathmaker on the show!

Listen to this episode wherever you stream your podcast, and watch it online on our YouTube Channel.

Monique Soltani is an award-winning journalist, TV News anchor, Mother, Wife, Host of Wine Oh T.V., and much more. She has accomplished so much and has been on a journey with her successful show, Wine Oh T.V. But in the midst of shooting a wine episode she got word of her husband's illness; she dropped everything to be by his side, and eventually, she had to say goodbye to her beloved. But in the face of this adversity, she prevailed. She had taken some time off and focused on raising her twin daughters, found her voice again, and picked up where she left off with her career. She is not only a businesswoman, but she is a mother and a successful one at that. I hope you can enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed talking with Monique.

Distilled spirits are an amazingly tough market. It never ceases to amaze me how the segment can absorb another premium spirit. But this premium spirit is un unique; it is non-GMO. Wine Talks recently had the guest of a GMO probiotic that helps reduce the symptoms of a hangover…now on the opposite side of the spectrum, we have Mark Anderson who created the largest source of non-GMO rum and vodka. His passion is evident when he delves into the sources of his spirits and the logistical path he and his wife have created. Tune into Wine Talks podcast to stream this episode!

A.P.W.A.S.I. stands for the Asia Pacific Wine and Spirit Institute...an institute began by Dr. Clinton Lee to give access to all who seek education in our industry.
Dr. Lee takes a holistic approach to not only what is in the glass, but what it takes to enhance the service and hospitality of the wine and spirits experience.

We had a completely wonderful conversation and could have spoken for another hour.
Tune in wherever you stream your podcast to listen to this wonderful thought provoking episode.
Cheers 🥂

Meet Lia Poveda from The Glenelly Estate! There they are producing amazing Bordeaux-style wines...but wait, they also produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; which is perfectly fine for Lia, she was raised in Burgundy, France.
The history of South African wines is intriguing and the history of the proprietor of Glenelly, May de Lencquesaing, is nothing short of Bordeaux royalty.

Charlie brings a rather unique view of the wine world. As a human resources attorney by day, his love for wine and his matter-of-fact approach all other times has landed him in the unexpected position of wine influencer. But the story isn't over.

Charlie is also an expert and importer of fine caviar. It is a first to have a caviar specialist on the show.

Charlie calls it the way he sees it and at some point in his pursuit of wine knowledge and appreciation (and he gets it), he stumbled upon the need for proper caviar.

Why are wineries taken during the war? The Germans invaded France and held up in Bordeaux and other places. The Romans did the same. And in modern history, Azerbaijan did it to Armenia. History repeats itself. This is the second story we have heard on Wine Talks of the very taking of a winery in the region. This one is a bit different, it was taken by force rather than through political boundary changes.

The Kaprelian family is resilient. They will not allow the spirit of their ancestors to be squelched. They are rising up again to reestablish the Takri brand.

I met up with Alexandra Kaprielian in Soho New York at the Soho Club to have a chat about how her family is rising up again.

Before we started the recorder, my conversation with Chuck McMinn was about the telecom industry back in the day....and how he was responsible for the release of the famed Intel 8088 processor (this is serious microprocessor history). The wine bug got him on a trip to Napa and as he puts it "I got into the wine business two weeks before I knew I was in the wine business". Fabulous story and as winemaker Keith Emerson peels back his passion for winemaking, you understand why quickly became a sought after wine. Have a listen, available now on streaming platforms.
