Sorry, is that a curvaceous woman making it in one of the ‘Best Looks of the Night?’

I wanted to present what I felt inside; GLAMOROUS. But I knew this would be a matter of settling for what fits, vs. what fulfils. and I bonded over our shared frustrations throughout my fitting; options do not exist past size 14/16. I actually found myself struck with a feeling I can only describe as, “this is how it’s meant to be,” when I was trialling each garment to find the *one.* Each piece we tried made me feel enough, whole and valid. The fabric considered my bust, my b***y and my divine figure that usually faces heavy self-criticism post shop.

I didn’t need to change. I didn’t want to change.

THIS is what happens when designers, like rebel against the standard. The fashion industry fears what curve women are capable of when we are given the opportunity to present how we feel; FIERCE. So they drape us in shame, limited options and refuse to acknowledge our power.

THIS is what happens when we show up in EXACTLY what we want to wear. Best dressed? Sounds correct.

Thank you for being the transformation in fashion that we needed.

Adoption journey update: Cot number 10.

I’ve been organising documents to allow me to get married overseas and as we were sifting through the collection, my parents found these.

When I was in Nava Jeevan, (the children’s home), those *first* moments were documented by one of the carers. This was fascinating to me. Just as a side note, these documents weren’t hidden from my life as an adoptee, I’ve seen some of them when I was much younger but clearly didn’t hold further intrigue to take note of the details or even soak up the other pages.

It amazes me that my biological mother handed me to the carers at Nava Jeevan on the 3/09/1993. That’s an entire week of life with her that I obviously wouldn’t have known, but the fact that a week with her existed is a surreal thought.
I didn’t know this information.

Swipe for some of the carers and doctors who made sure I was healthy, cot number 10, the meaning of my name, my boarding pass to Australia, a note from my social worker who delivered me to my adopted parents and my ‘now.’ I have been so fortunate with my adoption experience, so much so, my comprehension of ‘family’ has never been bound by blood. I owe my life to pure luck.

*Fun fact: My best friend and I named my first ever blog, Lustrous Allure Beauty. I had no idea my name meant ‘lustre’ and ‘beauty.’ Insane, right?

I am manifesting a where designers chain ‘celebration’ and ‘size’ together. I want the runways to display an invitation for ALL consumers of fashion. People with disabilities, of diverse sizes, gender fluidity and skin tone are equally deserving of their place on the runway. Tokenism, isn’t enough. Consistency is the standard.

When I strutted the runway as a 153cm, brown, juicy woman, I felt liberated and understood. This ripple effect trickles down into the eyes of anyone who can relate which inspires POSSIBILITY. Visibility is so bloody powerful, isn’t it?

Friends, I know I said that I’d be turning out looks for MFF, but my priorities have had to shuffle around and I won’t be attending this year. So, here are a few of my favourite fashion drama’s from the past (with a throwback to the ‘22 runway)- more to come 👀

I appreciate and the brilliant for endless reasons. But it’s Natassia’s approach to personhood, beauty and skin that gets me all giddy. I always feel the current version of ‘you,’ is being celebrated. That was the energy for this shoot.

Just me - unedited, unfiltered and undeniably ENOUGH.

It continues to baffle me that the industry I now feel so welcomed by, did not see skin/faces that looked like mine as a source of value. Now, I’ve transitioned from being hopeful for more brown faces in this industry, to being that person someone can identify with. That’s bloody special!

What a feeling it is to be a part of development and reviving the beauty standard 🤎
