Eureka! Join us in the laboratory to review the test results on our favorite scientist characters across various sci-fi media. Some are mad scientists. Some are blissfully competent. Some are astoundingly both!

by Ames Good news, everyone! Welcome to our laboratory, and I do hope you’re pronouncing it with a plethora of syllables. This week, we’re looking through our safety goggles at the characters who...

The lack of time to tell stories is painfully evident in "The Examples". A plot about prisoner rights and society that would feel right at home in about any "Trek" series has to be squeezed down until it loses all nuance all so it can share space with a new science person who is like all the awfulness of early Stamets with none of the later Stamets charm. Because no better time to run an experiment that there's really no big rush on than during a crisis!
Also this week: potatoes, Frozen, and scientists!

When we talked robots last week we brushed up briefly against the Transformers and their shockingly deep lore. Here is just a small look at part of it

Think of the things they could teach us if they weren't so busy punching each other.

Bite our shiny, metal asses! This week, we're upgrading all our favorite artificial lifeform characters, so prepare for the singularity as we share some excellent robots, androids, holograms, and sentient computer programs. Beep boop!

by Ames Beep boop, fellow robots! A while back, we highlighted some of our favorite artificial lifeforms from various shows within Star Trek—featuring some of the show’s best characters—and the most...

"All Is Possible" as long as you have a team! Like a clutch of cadets who unfortunately remind us of one of the worst episodes of "Voyager". Like that hot Vulcan politician you would violate ANY Prime Directive for. Like that physician/psychiatrist who has his own stuff to deal with but is going to ignore it for now!
Also this week: torch passing, military dictatorship, and artificial life forms!

New episodes every Thursday!

Podcasts: a frontier that isn't actually very final at all. These are the voyages of the podcast A Star to Steer Her By. Our continuing mission: to watch every single episode of Star Trek (even the dumb ones), to comment on and snark at whatever suits our fancy, to boldly split infinitives that no man has split before.

Follow our crew of Chris, Jake, Ames, and Caitlin as we explore the universe of Trek, go on wild tangents, crack wise, and make more fart jokes than necessary.
