So, there's a specific Little Shop of Horrors story I want to cover on the podcast that would require a research trip out to the Library of Congress. I should be able to cover most of the expenses, but any help would be greatly appreciated. 💚

80 years ago today, on May 28th, 1941, in defiance of the Wagner act, Disney fired animator Art Babbitt, the creator of Goofy (and eventual leading animator and mentor on “The Thief and the Cobbler”), and 13 other artists for demanding a union. A motion to strike was made that evening, and the strike began the following day on May 29th.

Unless they've been openly supporting a facist, antagonizing oppressed communities, and/or undermining science for any length of time.

F**k them, you owe them nothing, act swiftly and without mercy.

RALEIGH, NC—Calling it his lifelong dream, local man Brendan Lockhart, an insecure and perpetually frustrated bully who believes he has something to prove to the world, told reporters Thursday that he is seriously considering a career in law enforcement.

"I just approached it from the standpoint of what it truly is; it’s kind of like the Faustian story. It’s kind of like the devil story. Like, ‘Sell your soul to me and I’ll give you everything you want.’"

During an episode of Collider Conencted, Billy Porter teased what he's got in mind for Audrey II in the upcoming Little Shop of Horrors film.

Robert Stack was slated to make his Broadway debut when he pre-recorded the opening narration for the 2003 production of Little Shop of Horrors at the Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, FL. Directed by Connie Grappo, the production was intended as a scaled-down tryout run, to polish technical aspects, before moving to Broadway for an official August 14 opening.

Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. Stack died on May 14, 2003, a week after the tryout production began preview performances and two days before its official opening. On June 2, it was announced the production would not be moving Broadway, with producer Marc Routh saying, "In spite of the great number of talented people involved, the elements of this production did not come together in the way we would have liked.” Grappo was soon replaced by director Jerry Zaks, who reconceived and redirected the show from the ground up for its October 2, 2003 opening at the Virginia Theatre.

Hunter Foster, cast as Seymour, would be the only cast-member to transfer with the show to Broadway. Don Morrow replaced Stack as the prerecorded prologue voice.

There's nothing saying that a season of something has to be over 10 episodes, is there? Hmm.

Well, anyway, season two coming sooner then even I expected. :)

I don't care what anyone else says. As I kid, Gene Deitch's Tom and Jerry shorts were the ones I gravitated towards. They were weird and surreal at times, and the limited animation isn't always fluid, but that's what I liked.

There's a quirkiness to their simplicity and style that's all their own and always felt like a breath of fresh air in the shorts' Cartoon Network blocks. They're just interesting to look at and when I think of Tom and Jerry, a Gene Deitch shot is likely to be one of the first to come to mind.

RIP Gene Deitch. Thank you for your delightful, surreal, often overlooked run.

“I tried to find films to study that could possibly help. But there weren’t any. ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ is jaded and campy. ‘Little Shop’ is about innocence. The movie that comes closest is ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s.’ ”

Rick Moranis raised the ax high over his head.
