Day 3 and 4 of Iceland: Skógafoss, Dyrhólaey, Reynisfjara, Fjaðrárgljúfur, Jökulsárlón/Diamond Beach, Dettifoss.
Iceland has a ton of incredible geological wonders but Day 2 and 3 were pretty jam packed with them. The third photo is an overlook of Jökulsárlón which is a bay pressed up against the massive glacier in Vatnajökull National Park. As chunks of ice break off the glacier and float into the bay, they are naturally carried through a small passage and out to the Atlantic. As the waves throw the chunks of ice back onto the adjacent volcanic beaches, they fragment and litter the aptly named ‘Diamond Beach’ with souvenirs!
Tips of the day:
1. Reynisfjara Beach might seem enticing but don’t go into the water - it has proven to be deadly to several tourists over the past few decades due to ‘sneaker waves’.
2. The east coast of Iceland’s Ring Road was by far my favorite and most scenic part of the drive. Take your time and stop as much as you can if you ever do it!
