Using the word “PLANNED” is just clickbait. It implies that alot of preproduction work had been done on the future seasons when what he said was it was the directors DREAM that it would be 3 seasons. This story also paints an unrealistic portrait of what the Acolyte really accomplished. The Acolyte suffered from bad pacing and a poorly thought out story & script. Too much mystery building that led to zero surprises and zero payoff. It did have a few amazing lightsaber fight scenes but I realized early on that I didn’t care when any of the characters died, nor did I feel the need for any of them to succeed other than Manny Jacintos character. Manny was the only really interestingly written character. If the story was from his POV, that would have been more interesting and fit the name better. Unfortunately, 90% of what happened in the show was unnecessary and they failed to make us care about the characters. The whole season could have been boiled down to a one hour long episode or an hour and a half movie and been much more satisfying. I felt the exact same way with Ahsoka season 1. Too much wasted time & Never getting to the point which has been a problem in the MCUs TV shows as well as Lucasfilms. They keep trying to force a whole season out of an hours' worth of story. I understand why Disney wants to stretch a story to get a couple months worth of subscriptions to Disney+ out of us but it's either detrimental to the stories being told or the stories arent interesting enough to merit it. Comics do it too, everything is streched out over 5 or more issues in hopes of squeezing a graphic novel out of it but In the era of social media, attention spans are only shrinking and if you don't deliver a satisfying story in the first few episodes, viewers won't stick around. Instead of writing a story to unfold over 3 seasons, write the story as one good season and cut out the fat.
What do you all think?
Do you think the Acolyte delevered a great story? Were you expecting more?
The galaxy far, far away faced heartbreak earlier this year when was officially canceled despite strong critical acclaim and solid viewership.
Speaking during a Fan Expo panel, series star Manny Jacinto revealed creator Leslye Headland had envisioned a three-season arc for the show: “I remember Leslye’s dream was for us to do three seasons, not just this one… But there’s something about having a finite ending to things that makes it so much more special.”
