WARNING: This video contains images of blood, which is particularly concentrated where Jessica was lying on the floor when law enforcement arrived. We will not be posting any images of Jessica or her head injuries.

This is unedited body cam footage of the room where Jessica allegedly shot herself. There’s a lot of cross-talk, so it’s not all easy to hear. And of course, there’s Billy’s blubbering to interpret.

Please note when speculating that there was no exit wound, so there may not have been as much blood as one would expect. However, there is much discussion about where the shooting actually occurred. We have received no information to indicate that law enforcement investigated the camper or shed on the property. The shed burned down shortly after the shooting.

Post 11

There were two calls to 911 on the morning Jessica was shot. The first is from Michael Dilks. Listen closely.

We believe the second call came in from Jimmy Snyder, who was the only other person there. Allegedly. The call cuts off because the ambulance company has its own recording system. We do not have that recording.

Michael Dilks, in his statement to police (see Post 3), said that the only people in the home were himself, Jimmy Snyder, Billy Hadder, and Jessica Layton. But is that true?

The first call came in at 2:23 a.m. and ended at 2:25.
Billy’s voicemail to Jessica’s teenage son was at 2:26. See Post 4.
The second call was made by (Snyder?) at 2:45.
What was happening between the first and second calls?

According to the dispatch log, the first officer arrived at 2:53. He responded by radio at 2:28 a.m. Why did it take thirty minutes?

Do you know the voices on these calls? Send us a message or respond below if you have ideas, especially first-hand knowledge of the voices.

Post 10

You read in Post 9 about the woman Billy Hadder choked, trying to get her phone from her just because he wanted her to stop talking to her cousin about stuff entirely unrelated to him.

Here’s just a small collection of other stories we’ve been told about Billy’s treatment of people. He’s an equal opportunity as***le. They are intentionally vague to protect identities, although some of you may know who they are. Please keep it to yourselves. This page is not going to tolerate victims being “outed” unless we have their permission. If you want to message us with information or corrections, please feel free to do so!

We’ve tried to talk to a few people who weren’t interested and claimed he wouldn’t hurt a fly. That is not true.

Billy, who owns and rides horses, intentionally made one buck, breaking the female rider’s collarbone. When asked why he would do that, she said he’s just mean. That’s “how he is towards women.”

Someone who had not really dated, but hooked up with Billy a few times, said she wasn’t serious, but he would hound her all the time about hanging out during the three weeks she hung out with him. One day he accused her of stealing from him, including his jeans. He made the accusation in front of a guy…who was wearing the stolen jeans! When she pointed that out, the other guy punched her unconscious. When she woke up, she learned that Billy had stomped on her ankle so hard it fractured in multiple places.

Speaking of jeans, boy howdy does he seem to like his jeans! And himself, if his thousands of shirtless FB photos are any indication. We’ve been told by many people that he’s always considered himself god’s gift to women.

Billy seems to have a pattern of not being able to let women go. He will obsess (or “obless” as he stated in the police interview) over them. Someone once came upon him crying in a driveway, holding a gun to his chest. He was apparently so upset someone didn’t want him, he was crying about loving her, and if he couldn’t have her, he was going to kill himself. Etc. That was just a few months after he’d been harassing another woman who didn’t want him.

There was also the time he got mad about something someone sitting in a car said so Billy threatened to drill the guy’s eye out as Billy held a drill bit about an inch from his eye.

Something is seriously wrong with that man.

Post 9

We're still gathering information about other women affected by Billy Hadder's behavior, so we will just tell you about one story tonight.

We will not identify the woman here and ask that no one else identify her, either. The following is a narrative from a night in 2016. This was not the first run-in law enforcement had with Billy Hadder in this jurisdiction. He was also arrested later for fleeing (the same woman's home), resisting arrest, and elbowing a police officer in the temple.

But on this night, law enforcement arrived at a woman’s residence, where she was present with Billy Hadder and her six-year-old child. Billy told law enforcement that he and the woman had been arguing. She wanted him to leave, so he was trying to get his things together. He said he “snatched” a phone away from her.

When the police talked separately to the woman, she stated the following (this is taken from her written statement). She was on the phone with a cousin, discussing a family issue. Billy wanted her to get off the phone, but she said no because they were discussing family issues. He kept telling her to get off the phone, but her cousin told her to stay on because she could hear Billy yelling and getting angry.

“He tried grabbing the phone and I asked him to leave me alone because he was hurting me because he had me pinned against the front door and I couldn’t get away from him. He was using alot [sic] of force grabbing my neck. Me and my [child] were both upset and he was able to get my phone. My [child] ran out the door to go to the neighbors to call the police, but Billy ran after [the child] and grabbed [the child] and brought [the child] back to my apt. I was able to find his phone and went to the bedroom and called 911. Once he walked in and noticed I was on his phone he grabbed me again and hung his phone up. The 911 operator called back and told me to stay on the phone with her until the police arrived.”

The woman did get a temporary order of protection, which was extended a couple of times. However, the case was ultimately dismissed. We hold no judgement about people who stay in or do not pursue punishment in domestic violence situations. There are so many reasons victims don't want to go forward. We WILL judge abusers all day long, however, unless and until they seek help for their issues. Our hearts also break for that little 6-year-old who ran terrified from what should have been the safety of the child's home, only to be dragged back by an abusive MF. We hope they're both doing well.

Jessica Layton was shot from under her chin. Most of the extensive damage was (her) left of center. A “damaged copper jacketed bullet” was found in her brain.

This is what Billy Hadder said happened when “interviewed” by the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office. We decided not to edit/shorten the video.

Post 6

We recognize that these might be upsetting to anyone close to Billy Hadder, but we promise the photos of Jessica Layton lying there dying in the same room are far more upsetting.

These are just two photos taken at 3:12-3:13 on May 19, 2022. Billy remained in the fetal position, which indicates deception per law enforcement we’ve consulted. That and common sense. Can you figure out the blood patterns? Assume she was straddling him. With a long gun under her chin.

We’ll post both an edited and full version of PCSO’s “interview” of Billy. Stay tuned.

A couple of weeks after Jessica died, Billy Hadder’s sister had this to say on FB. You’ll hear Billy’s story in the next post. Posting the gun information again in the comments.

Post 4

Inexplicably, Jessica's 15-year-old son received a voicemail at 2:26 the morning his mama was shot. He didn't even know it until after the family learned of her death. It was from Billy Hadder. It is difficult to make out most of what he's saying, which will turn out to be a repetitive tactic.

This is body cam footage from the night/morning Jessica died. You can see the ambulance taking her to the ER. She was going to be airlifted to Memphis, but died before that was possible. We've included in the comments what kind of gun was provided to the crime lab. More on those details later.

We don't plan to post during the Memorial Day weekend, so be careful out there and we'll get back to it next week.

Phillips County, Arkansas 911 logs show that on May 19th, 2022, at 2:23 am, Michael Dilks called to say his "friend came with blood all over him." Twenty-two minutes later, another 911 call came in with information that "it been a person shot." Law enforcement arrived at the home in Lexa 30 minutes after the first 911 call.

When they arrived, the owner of the home, James "Jimmy" Snyder and Michael Dilks were outside. Law enforcement walked into the home to find Billy Hadder covered with blood, lying on top of Jessica Layton, who had been shot in the face. She was still alive, but not for long.

Two years ago today, 36-year-old Jessica Lynn Layton died from a gunshot to her head in Lexa, Arkansas. The man who was with her told police it was su***de. The Phillips County Sheriff left it at that. Jessica’s family, including the children who survive her, have only been met with indifference in their search for answers. Tomorrow we’ll share more about the circumstance of her death. But today is for Jessica.

I am researching about four cases right now, and I think I’ve mis-named this podcast. Perhaps it should be Unsatisfied Arkansas. I can see why families might be frustrated with the investigations.

IT WAS NOT called a funeral, and there was no coffin, no grave. But the mourners still came, filling Magnolia’s Central Baptist Church on an unseasonably cool day in July 2014. They walked down the blue carpeted aisles, arranging themselves on long wooden pews. And at the cemetery east of town, a ...

We have several investigations in progress, including those linked below. Do you have ideas for cases we should look into? It could be an unsolved death, false confession, innocence, or missing people. You are welcome to use the comments or send us a private message. This effort is a lot of work, but we're trying to get everything ready to launch as soon as possible!
