First Edition is available at The Farm Store at in Gilbert, AZ. Now that’s fresh!

Why not wander out this weekend — or on the next Farm Night, Nov. 11, with live music and a bonus batch of vendors?

Fertile fields + arching arbors + really good restaurants, too.

Like a limited-edition work of art, each copy of First Edition is numbered by hand.

We’ve used a manually rotating stamp and non-smearing ink from Phoenix Rubber Stamp Company to uniquely identify each and every mag in the premiere press run.

Other tangible distinctions from online editorial content and run-of-the-paper-mill mags: a tipped-in sample of letterpress printing, and a vinyl sticker for your window or water bottle.

To order a numbered copy of the first (and very collectible) issue of First Edition mailed directly to you, follow link in bio and see Distribution. Sign the Contact page to receive news about the second issue too.

Wrapped in brown paper and topped with a mere paragraph from the inside, “blind date” books at The Printed Garden bookstore encourage selection unbiased by delicious covers, seductive titles or the reputations of the authors.

The style of each writer and the subject of each book are introduced in the intimacy of a few precious sentences.

“Blind date books are around. But I choose mine carefully, picking books that I want to turn people on to,” says , owner of the Sandy, Utah shop. “They add a fun and mysterious aspect to the store.”

A shopper who has been rifling through the blind date section turns to Aaron and says, “This sounds like a topic my 14-year-old would like, but is it age-appropriate?”

He takes a moment to read the paragraph and ponders. “Yes. Oh, yes. I think he’ll like this a lot.”

When she was the ceramics studio manager at the experimental village of Arcosanti, Erin O’Loughlin parlayed her manual arts finesse into a campaign to build site-specific furniture.

The flight-of-fancy curved walls and oddball configurations of Paolo Soleri’s legacy landmark gained practical seating and storage—and O’Loughlin’s Kickstarter pledges received hand-imprinted, kiln-fired jewelry as thank you gifts.

Now an architect in Flagstaff, O’Loughlin sits on the local housing commission, concerned with affordability issues. In her apartment, she tosses her keys onto a table of her own design, plugs in a kiln so tiny that “the only thing it’s good for is jewelry,” and prepares carved crescents and medallions for firing.

The Artists’ Gallery co-op, where she’s a member, is a ready retailer of her Scattered Materials brand of necklaces. Hallmarks are leather cords with adjustable knots, “hanging mosaic” elements connected by delicate jump rings, and a consistently affordable price point.
