Hey y’all! It’s National Reading Month!!

Last year, I released “Let’s be Fair”, to begin the conversation about financial literacy, with early readers. The illustrations, by were purposed to show the black family in a progressive light.

I could easily talk about financial literacy, using any scenario and with just pen and paper. However, writing books has given me the opportunity to educate AND celebrate black excellence. I’d have it no other way!

I’d love to know, tell me about when you learned and how that timing impacted your adult life! Did your parents teach you or did you learn on your own!

My story: I first learned about finances when I worked at Standard Federal, now , in high school! I was a bank teller through a high school leadership program. I learned about maintaining a bank account, savings, and credit cards at a very basic level.

Most of what I learned about finances came later and life where I was taught through professional or work experiences. This has impacted me in both negative and positive ways! Fortunately, any financial mistakes I made early on, I learned quick enough how to fix them.

The REAL Parker is ready for the holiday season.

Since Parker was 1, we’ve always given away toys to make room for new ones. A week or so ago she came to me and told me she’s ready to donate her toys! I’m not exactly excited for the sorting part, but I am looking forward to less clutter and giving to a family that will appreciate them!!
