A few years ago I embarked on a "side project" to develop a game about ironclad warships that sailed during the American Civil War. Like with so many side projects, the rabbit hole was deeper than expected! Two years on, here we are launching Dawn of Iron: The American Civil War at Sea!

https://www.wargamevault.com/product/374494/Dawn-of-Iron-The-American-Civil-War-at-Sea-Bundle

I want to extend a very warm thank you to everyone that's offered support, wisdom, and time to help me with this effort. So this afternoon I've done a small soft launch of the game on Wargame Vault. It's available there as a PDF document. If I can build a little momentum and community interest, my next goal is to push to create even more content and prepare the game for a physical print run early next year.

On that note, if you're interested in contributing or following the community as we work on some expanded content, please join us here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SBSIronclads

I've teamed up with Patrick Woodard, who is an excellent and prolific 3D sculptor. He's been making amazing models that can be used in Dawn of Iron. Please find his shop here: https://www.wargaming3d.com/vendor/eastcoastironclads/

Again, I just want to say thank you for bearing with me as I work on these rules, and I hope that you enjoy them as much as I've had making them!

I am pumped for the new Kill Team release. I loved Kill Team 1.0, played a ton of it, ran events, etc.

I'm disappointed with the way GW chose to do this release. Having to purchase another (possibly $50) book to get stats for our existing models that are basically just an index (no special rules, no specialists, etc) when compared to the Krieg and Ork guys in the box set (which I pre-ordered).

Speculation is that this $50 book is just a stop-gap until specialized units are released down the line. I'm excited to get some new models for my armies if they do come, but man I don't want to have to wait for that and possibly miss out due to limited release sizes.

KT was a great game for much of first edition but it was hard to get going at our local store - lots of folks just like to show up and play with the same 40k big army every weekend - so this will make it harder if people have to buy two new books for a speculated cost of $100 total. It would have been a great move to just release this compendium as a PDF, or in their new Warhammer+ app or whatever. I get they need to make money, but this seems like a cash grab.

I don't super care that certain lists are basically only one model type, as I mostly play GSC and Sisters which are not so limited. It seems like they did this to encourage newbs with one box, which is fine.

I'm still excited to try out the game, as they seem to have put in a lot of modern rule designs and interesting interactions, this was just a bit of a letdown. This vid is a good summary of the issue:

I picked up a ton of new and used books on my trip to the North Carolina coast this past week. Visited the HL Hunley museum, Fort Sumter, and the CSS Neuse ironclad museum. Tons of awesome artifacts, art, and firsthand accounts in all of them. Can't wait to read these.

This is great!

This 19 June 2021 marks the long overdue first officially recognized Juneteenth. This holiday marks the end of slavery in the United States and has been celebrated every 19 June by African American communities since 1866. Now, finally, this historic moment is broadly recognized at the federal level and will be officially celebrated in the United States for the first time today.

We each should mark this and every Juneteenth by remembering those that were held in bo***ge and those that sought to free them. It's common to think about Union regiments arriving on the scene to free African American slaves, but we must not forget those brave souls that risked everything to seek freedom for themselves and their loved ones.

One such person was Robert Smalls of Charleston. He led a daring escape, commandeering the steamer CSS Planter and slipping under the Confederate guns to liberate himself and 15 other slaves, including five women, three children, and seven men. It's the stories such as these that I will be remembering and cherishing on this first official celebration, and everyone thereafter that I'm fortunate enough to pass.

To honor Juneteenth, I've pulled together a small pack for my Civil War naval game, Ironclads that includes Smalls, the Planter, and a scenario that recreates his daring escape. His is an amazing story and I hope that you're as excited to read it as I was to tell it.

Remember them, remember their struggles, remember their courage.

Hi everyone! We know it's been a while since we've recorded - with Geoff having a new baby [congrats!] and the pandemic it's been hard to get motivated and make time.

With that said, we thought it'd be a perfect opportunity to switch directions with the pod. We're proud to announce today that going forward this pod will be renamed 6+ Rerollable, and will be dedicated solely to Warhammer 40,000. We feel that with The Independent Characters retiring there's a space for more pods opening up.

We look forward to your comments and questions! Have a good day.
