Ellie & Skyllarr are super stoked to sit down with herself J.Mix ✨ airing this friday on 102.3 FM 🎙 *its gonna be a 2 part episode* stream online @ whivfm.org/listen “Jessica Mixon (J.Mix) is a New Orleans-based artist of color that has been privileged to travel internationally with her talents.

Growing up amongst the black community and receiving education in predominantly white institutions, the validity of her blackness was questioned amongst PoC and ignored amongst white peers. Her mental health suffered throughout her childhood due to ancestral and systemic variables that were out of her control, leaving her diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and PTSD in adulthood. In 2018, J.Mix reclaimed her life and finally stood up to those systemic variables that were keeping her from reaching her fullest potential. Today, she strives to influence persons of every age and background to reclaim their purpose. At the present moment, she is doing this through her podcast (The Self-Aware Millennial), her music, and her ability to make quality time for the person that matters the most... herself.”

Racism is and has always been a public health issue. It is “the science of protecting & improving the health of people & their communities;” (CDC) this should not be contingent upon their race.

Racism attacks an individual at every level of their well-being by creating barriers on various socioeconomic levels from education to healthcare, especially in the black community resulting in gross morbidity and mortality.
It is the duty of the public health system to fight for and protect black lives.
