Sometimes, the right words arrive like a hug you didn’t know you needed—gentle, affirming, and grounding. They hold space for you, reminding you that even when physical distance separates us, we are still deeply connected. Recently, I was reminded of this when a childhood friend, someone I’ve shared so much life with, sent me a message that felt like a warm embrace.
We’ve known each other through so many versions of ourselves—our best and our messiest. We’ve had seasons where we drifted and seasons where we reconnected with more care. In this recent message, my friend wrote about how much they valued seeing our communication improve over time. But the part that truly stayed with me was when they said: “I feel like I’m growing with you.”
Those words wrapped me in warmth. They carried a quiet reassurance: I’m here. I see you. We’re on this journey together. In a world where so many relationships fall apart as people grow in different directions, this simple sentiment reminded me that we were growing together, even through life’s twists and misunderstandings. It was a virtual hug in its purest form, a moment of connection that transcended the screen.
It made me reflect on the power of words to nurture relationships. Sometimes we can’t be there to physically hug someone or show up in their lives the way we wish we could. But words—when shared with care and intention—can bridge that gap. They can let the people we love know that they’re seen, appreciated, and held, no matter the miles or misunderstandings between us.
In that moment, I felt inspired to think about how I could send more virtual hugs to the people I care about. What can I say to remind them that I’m here, that I value their presence, and that our connection is strong, even from afar?
A virtual hug might be as simple as:
• “You’ve been on my mind. How are you really doing?”
• “I hope you know how much you matter to me.”
• “I’m so proud of you for all that you’re doing and becoming.”
• “No matter what, I’m always in your corner.”
• “I love how much we’ve grown together—it means the world to me.”
Who in your life could use a virtual hug today?💌
