fakeworldwonderland is a new editorial effort that hopes to document exciting works across genres emerging from the singaporean and japanese music scenes through a critical eye, primarily via longform reviews and features with attention to context and personal perspectives.

with the recent resurgence of local music journalism, from Bandwagon to Life In Arpeggio and katong-kei, and having long read international media such as like beehype, and the wire, along with smaller, similarly-minded independent sites, like pitchopsticks and the work of patrick st.michel at Make Believe Melodies, i was inspired to add to this ongoing dialogue and highlight music that deserves more love.

the tagline: 'familiar sounds, different lenses' sources from the nature of the music fakeworldwonderland aims to cover. although at many times equally as appealing compared to currently popular sounds from the west or driven by large media outlets, music from both scenes remain criminally underappreciated. this small site serves to add to a growing effort in highlighting these scenes that fully deserve their attention, as well as to further fuel the rising profile of asian music.

hopefully, this site will serve as another piece in an ever-growing effort, where we can all help shine a light on interesting music all around the world!
