Last week’s Mike and Tani takeover was the perfect place to close the chapter on our FIRST 👏 OFFICIAL 👏 YEAR of Music Appreciation Night. 👏

Thank you for all of your support and for helping us to build this epic platform into what it has become!!

Wishing you all a safe and happy summer and we’ll be back in the fall for season 2!!! Watch this space!

Meet Jay Goges!

Jay is a professional musician and composer. He is a multi-instrumentalist, but his main instrument is piano. He is an active
performer in the local music scene, playing in bands like Tigerman, The Adventuring Party, and Danny & the Boys.

Jay began playing music when he was 14, and believes it is what brought his life into focus, making him a better student and a better person. He learned how to read music playing tuba and bass guitar. Eventually Jay started writing his own pieces for large/small ensembles, choir, and rock bands. He went on to study music education at William Paterson University further focusing his skills, and meeting amazing musicians who he still collaborates with regularly. More importantly, he met his wife Karen when he was hired as tenor section leader for her church. Music surrounds Jay’s entire life.

Jay writes original music for the show including the Theme Song, the Introduction Music, and all of the bed music that presenters speak over.

He believes in this community of amazing people! Music Appreciation Night is a place, not just a group. It is a place where anyone can express what they love about music to people who want to hear them talk about what they love about music. It started with just Ben, Tim, Ken and Jay trying to look for a way to cure boredom during quarantine, nerding out, and it has grown and expanded beyond that so much already. Jay looks forward to Thursday nights every week, and he hopes to help this community grow even more.

Jay loves long walks and hikes. He is also a big fan of camping and the outdoors. Jay and his wife Karen are huge fans of Maine and the band Guster. They ended up eloping on a beach in Maine during a weekend of Guster’s music festival “On The Ocean.”

He also unapologetically loves tortellini and his dog Bowie (but everyone knows that).

Everyone say “Hi Jay!!” 🙌

Meet Mike Gogel who Records and Edits “Music Appreciation Night.”

Mike’s been a DJ, a Musician, a Radio Personality, a Podcaster, and has forgotten more music than most people have heard. He believes music is the great uniter. The common thread. What binds us. Finding new music is like reigniting the fire in your belly. It makes you curious, gets you interested and opens your ears.

Music Appreciation Night is like pure concentrated belly fire and is quickly becoming Mike’s favorite thing aside from writing bios in the third person.

Fun Fact about Mike: “I absolutely hate Tortellini and Helium balloons make me anxious when they’re outdoors.”

That's exactly what we are looking for. Ask yourself, "Why do I like this?" and share your answer with us to make us agree.

Tomorrow night, you will hear 3 presenters make the case for their favorite underappreciated music. They have 30 minutes and 4 songs to get you to feel the same way they do about it.

If you've never heard these tracks, just sit back and let your ears consume them for the first time.

If you have heard them before, we want you to listen, but as if it's the first time from the presenters' perspective.

Getting started with Discord to listen to Music Appreciation Night on Thursdays at 8:30PM EST:

1. Navigate to www.discord.com/download on your laptop or mobile device
2. Select the appropriate link for your device to start the download
3. Once it is finished, open the app
4. You can then log in or use your email to create a new account if you don't already have one
5. Go to your email's inbox to verify your account (this is required before you can chat in MAN)
6. Follow the invite link (found in our linktree) to join our server
7. There you will be prompted to accept the user terms and receive further instructions on how to connect.
