Narrated fantasy story (by host of The Handpan Podcast) with music-driven soundscapes (handpan + modular synth + nature)

If you've ever listened to The Handpan Podcast, you'll recognize my voice (Hey it's Sylvain — longtime Hang player and totally engrossed by the handpan art form for now over 16 years).

I think we can all agree that handpans sound magical. As a musician and a fantasy-nerd, I've never quite known how to combine both genres... until now! (I think)

If I may be candid, this is perhaps the first time I feel I have created something truly original.

More audiobook than album, "Hajmiin" is a genre-defying experience of music and storytelling that takes you on a scenic journey through a fantasy world, with immersive biodiverse nature soundscapes and cinematic ambiences. Rediscover a sense of wide-eyed wonder as you encounter unexpected moments of beauty during this 73-minute multi-sensory experience of mindful listening, vivid daydreaming and calming wildlife relaxation. One thing is for sure: it will feel like a world away from everything.

Backstory: A little over a year ago, I sketched out a fantasy map on the back of an envelope and I started daydreaming about a made-up world called Hajmiin... So I set out to write a fictional folktale, record nature sounds and compose a soundtrack for it.

(i'm particularly happy about the way handpans were recorded in this album — happy to share how, if anyone's interested)

This album is a bit hard to categorize so you're going to have to trust me on this... but the combo of nature sounds + modular synth + handpan is simply divine. The whole experience feels like a magical bedtime story.

And if you don't care for the story component, there's a music-only instrumental version. Enjoy!

Exclusivity is only enjoyed by insiders, isn't it? So we must fight against our self-preservation instincts, against locking things down and saying who can and can't participate, against making rules which are impossible to follow and standards which are impossible to meet so only the insiders get to stay as insiders. The handpan is democratic. You get to participate. And the ability to participate brings diversity of population, ideas and outcomes. Diversity leads to connection and forward-motion. Magic happens when participation happens.

With the podcast, I aim to bring to light stories you wouldn't otherwise hear. Kevin is a gentle soul. Look for him online, you won't find much. Yet he represents so much of the good this instrument has done over the past 20 years.
