খুব দরিদ্র পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন তিনি। তাই খুব অল্প বয়স থেকেই সম্মুখীন হয়েছেন জীবনের কঠিন বাস্তবতার সাথে।
গ্রেট ডিপ্রেশন চলাকালীন সময় বাবার চাকরি চলে যায়। পরিবারে দেখা দেয় অভাব অনটন। পড়তে হয় খাদ্যের সংকটে।
তাই বিভিন্ন ধরণের কাজের সাথে যুক্ত হতে থাকেন কম বয়সেই।
বিভিন্ন ধরণের ছোটখাট কাজ করে আর্থিকভাবে পরিবারকে সহায়তা করতেন ।
লেখাপড়ার পাশাপাশি মুভি দেখা, বই পড়া এবং লেখালেখির অভ্যাস ছিল খুব ছোট থেকেই। প্রতিটি কাজে পেতেন মায়ের উৎসাহ।
সেই উৎসাহ থেকে অনুপ্রেরণা পেতেন যেকোনো অসম্ভব কাজ করার এবং জীবনের প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রে নিজের প্রতি বিশ্বাস রাখার।
ছোটবেলা থেকেই অভিনেতা হওয়ার স্বপ্ন দেখতেন তিনি। কিন্তু অর্থের অভাবে তখন তা হয়ে উঠেনি।
তাই স্কুল জীবন শেষে কর্মজীবন শুরু করেন “টাইমলি কমিক্স” নামক একটি পাবলিশিং কোম্পানিতে।
কমিক জগতে যাত্রার শুরু সেখান থেকে হলেও প্রথমে কমিকের তেমন কোন কাজে জড়িত ছিলেন না।
কাজ করতেন একজন অফিস এসিস্ট্যান্ট হিসেবে। কলমে কালি ভরা, অফিসের সবার জন্য খাবার আনা-নেয়া করার মত কাজ করতেন সেখানে।
কিন্তু বেশ কিছু দিনের মধ্যেই ক্রিয়াটিভ আইডিয়ার জন্য তাঁকে এডিটর পদে নিয়োগ করা হয়।
তখন থেকেই তাঁর হাত ধরে সৃষ্টি হয় বর্তমানের নতুন কমিক জগত।
জন্ম নেয় ফ্যান্টাসটিক ফোর, হাল্ক, আয়রন ম্যান, ব্ল্যাক প্যান্থার, ডক্টর স্ট্রেঞ্জ এবং অ্যাভেঞ্জারসের মতো সুপারহিরো
সুপারহিরোর চরিত্রের পাশাপাশি তৈরি হয় বেশ কয়েক ভিলেন চরিত্রও।
তৎকালীন সেই টাইমলি কমিক্স পরবর্তীতে হয়ে যায় মারভেল কমিক্স। যা আমাদের শৈশবের একটা বড় অংশ জুড়ে ছিল।
একের পর এক সুপারহিট কমিকের পরও আর্থিকভাবে কোম্পানিটি বেশ খারাপ সময়ের মধ্যে দিয়ে যেতে থাকে।
সে সময় নতুন এক কমিক চরিত্র নিয়ে আসেন তিনি। কিন্তু তাঁর সেই আইডিয়াটিকে সমর্থন করা হয় না। বরং সবচেয়ে বাজে আইডিয়া বলে চলে যায় বাতিলের খাতায়।
অন্যদিকে কোম্পানির অবস্থা আরো শোচনীয় হতে থাকে। মারভেল তাঁর সর্বশেষ কমিক ছাপাবে এমন পরিস্থিতির সৃষ্টি হয়।
শেষ কমিক নিয়ে কেউ মাথা ঘামাবে না ভেবে ছাপানো হয় সেই বাতিলকৃত চরিত্রটি।
কিন্তু সবাই কে অবাক করে দিয়ে সুপার হিট হয়ে গেলো সেই আইডিয়াটি। কমিক জগতে জন্ম হল স্পাইডার-ম্যানের। কোম্পানিও নতুন করে ফিরে পেলো তার প্রাণ।
ক্রিয়েটিভ আইডিয়ার মাধ্যমে সামান্য একটি পাবলিশিং হাউসকে তিনি বিলিয়ন ডলার ব্র্যান্ড হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছেন।
সৃষ্টি করেছেন প্রায় শতাধিক কমিক চরিত্র।
তিনি হচ্ছেন আমাদের সবার পরিচিত মারভেল কমিক স্রষ্টা স্ট্যান লি।
