ULAQ - Armed-Unmanned Surface Vessel
Turkey has revealed its upcoming line of armed unmanned surface vessels. These can be controlled from the shore, or by other ships in the Turkish fleet. The upcoming TCG Anadolu LHD may carry these, and therefore serve as a mothership. Right now it is known that there will be 4 variants.
• A general purpose variant which can hunt smaller vessels, vehicles and infantry that are close to the shore. These will be armed with UMTAS anti-tank missiles as well as Cirit 70mm general purpose missiles.
• An anti-ship variant loaded with at least 4 Atmaca anti-ship missiles, capable of striking targets from over 250 kilometers away. This means that a group of these vessels can singlehandedly wipe out or paralyze a group of large combat vessels, meanwhile being cheap, small and expendable assets.
• An anti-submarine variant
• An electronic warfare variant
