This Mum launched her NUL online Bridal Business and its going from strength to strength.
I'm Cathy ♡ Mum to Evelyn who is 5, (going on 15) and Florence who is 3.
I started started Serendipity Bridal in October 2019, after visiting a bridal store to look for my own wedding dress. I had both my girls with me and realised 2 very important things.
1. Wedding dresses are expensive!
2. Wedding dress shopping with children is far from ideal.
I visited another boutique to buy a few accessories, and the owner mentioned to me that she was closing down due to illness and that she had 40 wedding dresses for sale.
Lightbulb moment 💡
I had been made redundant from my job in a high street bank in 2018, and my redundancy money was reducing rapidly, I had 4 months worth of money left as I had planned to find a job after my wedding in March 2020.
So I risked my last redundancy money, and made a leap of faith. I bought the dresses and Serendipity Bridal was born.
My plan initially was to simply sell them individually.
I was 42, and this was my third wedding, and now that I had children, I just couldnt justify spending thousands on a dress that I would wear for one day. That didnt stop me from wanting something beautiful. Your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life, and regardless of your lifestyle or income, you deserve to feel like a princess, even if its just for one day.
I began by offering home appointments locally, where I took gowns to clients homes for them to try, trying my best to create a bridal experience as best I could. A great plus for self conscious ladies.
It soon became apparent that a lot of my customers just didnt have the cash to buy a dress outright, so I started to offer payment plans for those on a very tight budget too.
Then Lockdown hit. With no bridal stores open, and ladies still wanting to prepare for their weddings, my online business really took off. I contacted the lady I had originally bought the 40 dresses from and she put me in touch with lots of her old supplier and store owners, who were happy to sell bundles of gowns to me to help them out, as they were struggling with no income too. I now have a list of trusted suppliers whom i buy from regularly.
What started off as small scale retail to help towards the household bills has now become my own income now that I am self employed. I work hard for my family and earnings go towards the bills, nursery and just creating a better life for my girls. It also gives me my financial independence back, something that I missed.
Working from home with 2 little ones has its drawbacks, especially during lockdown with no Childcare but I wouldnt change it for the world ❤️
I do it for a better future for my children and to encourage them to aspire and aim high. That working hard at what you want can make it happen. I strive to give every client the best possible experience, to show my appreciation for choosing me, and probably share too much of myself but that to be is the essence of a small business.
