How do we manage Type 1 Diabetes?

There are a few ways that Type 1 Diabetes can be managed....

1) Glucose Monitor- Checking blood sugar every few hours to monitor levels

2) Taking Insulin- this is normally done by self injection, there are now other monitors that inject the insulin through out the day in intervals as well

3) Eating Healthy- Changing habits to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight makes management easier to not have to re-access dosages and side affects

What is insulin?

Many know that insulin is used for the treatment of both forms of diabetes but do we really know what it is or how it actually helps the person to manage it? Insulin when produced by the body is
a hormone created by the pancreas that regulates the amount of glucose (sugar) that's in our blood. With Type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not create enough or does not create any insulin at all. Without this your body would begin to break down its own body fat and tissues, resulting in rapid weight loss and nutrition deficits. In short, insulin is what makes our bodies be able to have the energy we need to live.
