Five Okaloosa County high school boys' basketball teams —Niceville, Choctaw, Fort Walton Beach, Florida Coastal Prep and Crestview —are participating in a preseason tournament on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Currently, the Niceville Eagles are leading Rutherford at the half, 45-23.

At 5:30 p.m., Crestview will face Florida Coastal Prep.

At 7, Fort Walton Beach takes on Choctaw.

🥶We are now in a FREEZE Warning beginning at 6 p.m. - Cold Weather Update from NWS and Okaloosa Public Safety:

- OVERVIEW/WHAT'S NEW: Forecast remains on track as temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s tonight. A freeze warning has been issued for the entire area and a cold weather advisory for wind chills in the low 20s to upper teens is in effect for southern portions of Baldwin and Mobile counties and the northwestern Florida Panhandle.

- WHAT: Below freezing Temperatures and dangerous wind chills. Low temperatures will range from the low to mid-20s north of I-10 and upper 20s to low 30s south of I-10. The entire area is expected to reach or drop below freezing. Dangerous wind chills around 20 degrees will be possible along the I-10 corridor and around 25 degrees elsewhere. Numerous record daily low temperatures and record daily low high temperatures will be broken.
- WHEN: Monday night into Early Tuesday Morning.
- WHERE: Areawide
- CONFIDENCE: HIGH. Nearly 90 to 100% probabilities of dropping below 32 degrees area-wide. Only locations within a mile or so of the immediate coastline might not reach freezing.

- Other Hazards: Occasional gale-force wind gusts will be possible across the Gulf Waters out 20 to 60 nautical miles.

Alongside shelters opening in Crestview, Niceville and Fort Walton Beach; a cold weather shelter will be open tonight in DeFuniak Springs.

Cold Weather Shelter Opening Tonight
November 10, 2025

An overnight cold weather shelter will open tonight at the DeFuniak Springs Community Center (Civic Center) located at 361 N 10th Street, DFS FL

Hours:
Doors open at 5:30 PM
Shelter will remain open overnight until 7:00 AM the following morning.

This shelter is open to anyone in need of a warm and safe place overnight. You do not have to be experiencing homelessness to stay.

If you need assistance with transportation, please call 850-307-8100 for guidance. We are coordinating with local law enforcement when available and will work to assist with transportation by other means when necessary.
