UPDATE TO PETITION FILED IN REGARD TO TRUMP CLEMEMCY:

The US government has filed their official response to Jimmy Rosemond’s petition for clemency.

“The former President’s statements were not publicly communicated,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a court filing. “A verbal commutation made to two liaisons of the Petitioner and unidentified individuals present with the President cannot be considered ‘public’ for the purposes of commutation, nor is it otherwise a reliable indicator of the President’s intent.”

The judge hearing the case now must decide whether to let the case proceed. If is granted a writ of habeas corpus, the next step would be to stand in front of a judge who could vacate his prison sentence.

In 2008, Phillips would rely on a con man named James Sabatino, who had fabricated FBI 302 documents from inside federal prison, to write a story targeting Jimmy & Puffy, among others.

After The Smoking Gun reported the use of forged documents as the basis for the story, Phillips would be fired by the LA Times & disgraced as a journalist. The Times would also settle out of court with Jimmy to avoid a massive lawsuit.

Phillips would remain a looming presence in Jimmy Rosemond’s life and would haunt him for years.

The Tupac shooting at Quad Studios would be the impetus for the East Coast/West Coast wars. In this Episode, we dissect this trajectory with the help of William Bill Courtney, an ex-NYPD narcotics detective that was crossed deputized by the FBI and the DEA. He built many cases in Brooklyn, Queens, and across New York City. These drug cases that Bill worked began to bleed over into the hip hop music industry. He became a savvy investigator who knew the crime figures across the city, and how and why they started to infiltrate the hip hop music world early on.

has been incarcerated for 11 years.

In 2017, several Rosemond advocates led by Hall of Fame football great Jim Brown, his wife Monique Brown, and the late great actor Michael K. Williams, presented his case proceedings to an attorney.

The attorney in turn reviewed all trial transcripts and evidence and felt a gross injustice had been done. The collective group began to reach out to officials in the White House and had an opportunity to visit and present their findings of what they believed to be a wrongful conviction.

Over the next two years, they presented an overwhelming amount of additional evidence to support their stance.

After numerous meetings and phone calls between advocates, attorneys, and White House advisors, they recognized the merit of this case for clemency.

On December 18th, 2020 former President Donald Trump phoned the Browns and stated that Rosemond "would be home for Christmas."

Rosemond's team then prepared for his release and headed to Hazelton USP in remote West Virginia. After 3 days in a local hotel and a public announcement of clemencies, Rosemond's name was notably omitted.

In October of 2021, Rosemond's legal team filed a petition in court along with written affidavits from the Browns stating that the President had granted him clemency and he was now serving a sentence that no longer exists. They further contend that every day Rosemond is held in federal prison is a violation of his constitutional rights.

As of today, the government has until April 4th to respond and explain to the courts Rosemond should not be released.

Our series will use legal scholars and the application of law to debate whether or not clemency has to be memorialized in writing to be valid.

Pictured above is Jason Williams, a long-time employee of Rosemond's Czar Entertainment. He held several different roles at the company and often acted as 's driver to and from meetings, the airport, and industry events. Unfortunately, Williams got ensnarled in Rosemond's CCE case somewhere during legitimate work. Furthermore, he would be implicated in the murder of Lowell Fletcher by Brian "Slim" McCleod.

For Williams, whose level of involvement was questionable, would be sentenced to an unthinkable 24 years in 2012. Initially, Williams took his sentence and began his incarceration...but after serving six years, the government whose previous attempts at getting him to cooperate in Rosemond's first two trials failed would make Williams an offer he couldn't refuse. Testify against his Rosemond, and the government would work toward an early release.

In Rosemond's third trial for conspiracy to commit murder, Williams would take the stand. His testimony would secure a conviction for the government, and Rosemond would receive two additional life sentences.

Willams would be released in 2019 after cooperating. He served seven years.

Our series will explore the complexities of Rosemond's CCE and murder-for-hire cases. We'll also provide a closer look at how the government utilized informants and cooperating witnesses to obtain nine life sentences for James Rosemond.

Shortly after was convicted of running a CCE, he was indicted of a conspiracy charge to commit murder.

The conspiracy was regarding the murder of G-Unit affiliate and Blood gang member Lowell Fletcher aka Lodi Mack, gunned down on September 27, 2009, in the Bronx.

The murder was connected to an assault on Rosemond's then 14-year-old son by Fletcher, Tony Yayo, and others.

would have three trials regarding this conspiracy.

In the attached audio snippet, YouTube blogger recreates the court testimony of yet another government key cooperating witness, Brian "Slim" McCleod.

During our series, we'll look into all of the trial proceedings to try and get a clear picture of why it took three hearings to get a conviction.

The criminal justice system is a complex weave of politics, antiquated laws/procedures, power, and corruption in its simplest terms.

"dishonest or illegal behavior especially by powerful people (such as government officials or police officers)"

With 100 calls into Jimmy Rosemond over eight years, we've become pretty familiar with his stance on his CCE conviction. We've also extensively reviewed the court transcripts spoken with several individuals who were a part of or very familiar with his case.

We found and will reveal during our podcast series that Rosemond was in no way completely innocent. He was also not a drug kingpin, and a CCE charge carrying multiple life sentences should have never been levied against him. We believe, unfortunately for Rosemond, that he was unable to escape his past. Regardless of how much legitimate business he did to redeem himself, like many African American men, a wrong miscue, and the system will happily make an example out of you. As much as this is a story about Jimmy Rosemond...it's a story about the criminal justice system.
