This was a fun but tricky project to manage for AXA. The client wanted to shoot a multi camera chat show set up outside, in a non controllable environment! Therefore there were so many challenges to face such as the sun coming in and out between clouds, constantly changing the exposure! As DOP on this project, I decided to shoot under the trees to try and block out the exposure changes as much as possible, blasted HMIs to fill the subjects and then embraced the outdoor light changes; we are outdoors after all, not in a controlled studio! This worked really well and what I loved was at certain points in the day, dapples of sunlight would come through the trees, that would pleasantly add texture to the subjects and table.

LDRU 6/6: If you haven't seen this film, give it a watch (Link in BIO)! Jerome talks us through his experiences working as a paramedic through the pandemic and how he uses climbing as an escape.

During the interview filming, the conversation stretched well over an hour. However, when it came time to edit the footage for the final 10-minute film, we faced the daunting task of condensing it down to a mere 3 to 4 minutes. It was a challenge to determine what to retain and what to omit, given the wealth of compelling content.

Having numerous friends and family members employed in the emergency services, I've come to realize how easily we take their sacrifices for granted. Their experiences are often harrowing, yet they continue to selflessly serve our communities day in and day out. If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend taking the time to converse with individuals from these sectors—be it firefighters, healthcare professionals, or police officers. You'll be both shocked and inspired by the depth of their experiences and the sacrifices they make, often with little recognition or reward.

I find being outside, in nature is one of the best ways to relax and destress. Some of the best jobs I do are when I'm outside, even if it's raining! There's nothing quite like the feeling of sunshine on your face or the pattering of rain against your jacket, the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze, and the freedom of wide-open spaces. Whether it's a peaceful walk in the park, in your back garden, or a thrilling mountain adventure, nature always has a way of rejuvenating the soul and mind.

LDRU 1/6: Rewinding to 2020, the journey of creating Lock Down Rock Up remains an unforgettable experience. It was an extremely difficult period for me, akin to numerous others. Making this film was a beacon to distract from it all. Meeting Jerome was so much fun, not just as a climber (he's bloody good!) but also as a person, his selflessness projecting through his work and life.
I wasn't planning on doing anything with the film, but Jerome insisted to take it to festivals... good job I listened! It did really well winning several awards and nominations all over the world!

Climbing for me is such an epic sport. Not only does it tap into a physical side of me that I never thought possible but it also opens a side of my mind that enables me to learn so much about myself and how I deal with stress, breathing and mindfulness. Although you may think it's a solitary sport, behind it is an incredible community and team playing friends and partners. I've always loved sport, but climbing has been the one that has marked me the most by far.

Throwback Interview Screen Grab: This one for a doc about the wonderful Wendy Craig! This was a super fun one, especially as Wendy offered us tea and biscuits within seconds! This interview I had two HMIs shining through the windows to imitate a constant daylight as I knew it was going to be a long interview; I didn't want shadows to change throughout.

Throwback Interview Screen Grab: This one for a doc about Captain Tom! This style of interview is always a bit of a challenge. Due to having big headroom, one has to be a bit more creative for creating a backlight; for this interview I had the space so I used my combi stand and boom arm which gives me the extra length to hang a light over the large wide background.
