Rest in Peace brother Bagus 🙏🏾🕯️💔
This is our driver/tour guide from Bali he took us out pretty much everyday when we were there so we became very close. He went above and beyond to make sure we were safe, comfortable and had an amazing authentic Balinese experience. The same day we flew back to London he unfortunately had a stroke, lost the use of his right side and then a day after had a heart attack, he sadly passed away shortly thereafter. Bali is like Thailand in that just £10 can go a very long way for example our last hotel room was just £8 he would only ask for like £30 a day for driving us around the island from 9am till whenever. So we would often tip him extra feeling guilty for the differences in UK vs Balinese prices. He was so humble, most days he would bring us fruits and local snacks without us asking. One day he bought us to his family temple and explained that all of his ancestors have their marriages and funerals there, little did we know weeks later we would be watching his funeral happening in the same space. He’s got a young family that were relying on his income. So last year we started a go fund me to which many of you donated and were able to raise some costs to go towards his funeral and his family. Thank you to those of you who were able to donate, we are still in touch with his family. He has touched the lives of many tourists travelling to the island through his positive outlook on life, kindness, integrity and keen sense of humour he often drove for the solo traveller group so has shown many black people from all over the world his beautiful country with many opting to stay and live. His passion to teach people about his country and culture was genuine. He was a real diamond. He will be truly missed. He leaves behind a wive and 3 children…
The name ‘Bagus’ in Balinese culture means ‘good’ and can often symbolise one is who is noble, kind and admirable. He was all of the above.
Today marks one year since his passing. 😢
